My kid loves to messing around with them while playing and I’m tired constantly fixing them for million times for each character. Is there a decent addon that prevents it and competely locks action bars? And by the way, I don’t want it to move any spell from spellbook to action bar too.
EDIT: Hmm, seems like there’s an option to make it unmovable, yeah I know that but you can move them with SHIFT. And there’s an option to turn SHIFT off too but weirdly SHIFT was working even after I toggled NO until I toggled on/off so many times, weird bug.
Anyways, if you know any addon that prevents it you can tell me
If the interface option doesn’t work, you also could just do a backup before your kid starts playing from the folders in /World of Warcraft/retail/WTF/Account/[account name][realm name] and when he’s done, just activate the backups.
Blocking action bars would be IMO counter-intuitive. I don’t think you can find anything to do that. I am sure there is a number of addons to backup and restore your action bars, instead. Search for them in Curse or WoWInterface. I think there is something called ActionSwap but I don’t suggest it as I (1) never used that and (2) it might be outdated.
I am not sure if saving WTF folder can help because the layout, similarly to key-bindings, might be saved on a server, not on your local machine.
EDIT. Also, check out the Interface [settings]. I think you can disable the change of spells in Action Bars unless you hold the SHIFT key. But your kid might be at this age to figure it out
I tried that but seems like it doesn’t work? I copied a folder with my characters name then messed around a bit, then exit client, then replaced my backup folder (deleted existing one) and in game still action bars are messed.
There is an addon that lets you copy action bar setups so when you create the same class alt you can export and import, I can’t recall what it is called but a search in addons may find it. That may work for you,
I don’t like Bartender because it makes action bar icons look clunky and changes too many things at once.
Tried Action Bar Saver and… it erased all my action bars. It’s outdated. Great.

How about spec swap when the kid is playing, let them play Vengence if you play Havoc.
Or if you play both, why not have an alt for them? Let them level new alts for you…
Well I’m using and playing on different account so I made another account purely for my kid. The problem is he messes around too much and while I’m at work there’s no one to fix it and he can’t play properly
ah, In that case it is a bit trickier.
Perhaps a batch file could be written to copy a backed-up version of the Interface or WTF folders. Been a while since I wrote batch files, I assume they still work on windows 10.
Thanks to all for suggestions. Deleting, replacing WTF does nothing, I tried (read above). Finally found an addon: Action Bar Profiles.
At first I thought it isn’t working cause saving/loading profiles from Interface->Mods menu did nothing. But you need to manually type /abp save [Your char name] and afterwards you can mess your bar fully and just click icon on minimap, select saved profile and boom magic happens - it’s back to normal
It doesn’t change anything unless you change it in the settings yourself, you can have it totally stock with just the setting to not be able to click the spells on the bars you want.
