Hiya! This is my first forum post that isn’t just a reply so apologies in advance if I put this in the wrong category, but I didn’t really see anything that I thought would fit asides from General Discussion.
So, I play a different game with heavy mod support. The game gives mod authors early access to DLCs, patches and FLCs so they can adapt their mods ahead of time and have them ready before the game’s update even reaches the general playerbase. This means that most of the time, the mods don’t break certain aspects of the game’s update and players don’t have to get used to playing without the mods they’ve come to enjoy.
I know addons are an entirely different ball game, but I was curious if anybody knew if Blizzard had a similar system. Do the creators of popular addons such as Damage Meters, DBM etc. get access to the beta just so they can update their addons? Do they have to use the PTR instead? Or do they have to wait for the live release?
I’m asking mostly out of curiosity and not to whine! Going without addons for a little bit would certainly be no problem for me if that is the reality. This is just my first expansion release so I have no prior knowledge of how stuff like this works and I’m very interested!
Most addon creators have managed to get into beta sooner or later or have been working with the PTR. Most addons will work on launch but there is always the odd one that isn’t maintained, has a bit of a hiccup on the day. They tend to push updates quite quickly if things are broken.
You can even look on curseforge and change the game version to 9.0 to see all the beta versions that are being worked on via the site
Im so happy with my old buddy “KillCounter” on the bottom left corner.
I cant find it in the Curse or in Google anymore. There are a lot new addons with the same name. I just copy=paste it from my old laptop and it still working for 10ish years without any update. Maybe its not available anymore out there, I always get it from my older laptops and put it in my new one.
I hope it still gonna work in Shadowlands. I cant play without my old buddy.
