Just personal thoughts here :
DPS meter and dps ranking systems are just killing the game. People want to have good parse in raid/good dps in dungeon and pay less attention to group synergies. I think addons like dbm/big wigs and in general, extra tools, bring the game far easily to its limits. Tools at our disposition like for example raids fights analytics, are so sophisticated that the game can’t keep up the pace and inevitably, it gets boring. Of course we can change class design but in years I think we never questioned addons. Maybe it’s time to think about it ?
No reason to change your mind, ive hated addons for years … since, essentially, blackrock came out and my guild demanded I had addons for this and that.
despise them utterly for their making things too easy, for blizzard designing the game around the assumption theyre used and sod anyone who doesn’t use them, for their making people unwilling to talk as the addon does the spam.
Hate every aspect of them and put on instant ignore anyone who uses an addon to spam me begging for loot.
Hate them and wish blizzard would give me a server where they are banned completely and no one could move to the server via cross-realm but I could cross server out.
They might have been around for a long time but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are not harmful.
I don’t much like dps meters personally, I think it encourages people to judge on that one aspect of a dps players performance when things like interrupting and positioning might often be just as important.
I also think design choices are probably forced by the presence of timing and tracking add -ons. Balancing has to be done around players tracking things in game with add-ons. This will probably leave at least some content overturned if players are relying on the base game ui, that feels off to me personally.
I regret to inform you that I don’t exactly ‘trust’ your intentions.
A story of your caliber, while I would want to believe it, simply has-
-no merit because of the extremely improbable odds of it occuring.
In fact, I do not consider your story true and thus find the circumstances
of the said situation a poorly thought-up sham. Seeing as you are on the internet,
your tale has very much ambiguity, and while it may appeal as funny to some, I cant consider it on my agenda as a veracious allegory, and thus place very high doubts.
I find most stories like this very suspicious and realistically the probablities of
these things occuring are extremely low. I apologise, but I truly must confess that I can’t believe you
Dps meters are a good thing. If your raid or pug wipes you can check the meters (not just the dps but the actual abilities they use) and see who is not performing well.
Also if you think addons like dbm or big wigs “bring the game far too easily to its limit” have you done the highest tier of content? If you have then fair enough but if you haven’t then there really isn’t that much to complain about.
yes but your logic is the same as blizzards, you must have addons and we are going to design the game with that presumption in mind … if addons didn’t exist, blizzard wouldn’t make the game so difficult as to require them. Your high end completion would be based on skill, not your ability to download more addons than the other guy … which is the point the OP is trying to make. Download or fail.
The only addon i think is cancerous to the game is DBM.
Because first of all it literally cripples players in a way thats almost impossible to believe, people rely on it SO MUCH that they don’t know basic stuff like ‘‘don’t bodypull that pack of mobs’’, because DMB didnt tell them where to walk in the dungeon.
Secondly DBM literally forces Blizzard to design fights AROUND THE ADDON so it doesnt trivialise things, Azshara is a prime example of a fight that was bloated BECAUSE of DBM
You’re making a lot of statements while backing it up very flimsily. How exactly are raid analytics making Classes boring? That one in particular seems a bit far reaching to me.
True, DPS meters can technically have a negative effect when people are ignoring mechanics just to reach higher percentiles, but any raidlead worth their salt throws those idiots out and particularly in higher difficulties this is a non-issue because a corpses dps is zero.
I think addons really add alot to WoW.
I don’t want them removed and if anything I think some of them should be part of the game.
Things like dps meters or raiderio are so helpful and save you alot of frustration since you know what type of people you are going to be playing with.
The best argument I have is Diablo 3. I usually don’t like playing with other people (randoms) in Diablo 3 because there is not really any way to see who is doing any damage and who is slacking and I don’t wanna run around carrying other people for no reasons so that leaves me playing solo.
I think it’s an amazing addon and I loathe it when not everyone is using it. There’s always 1 member in my raid team not using it, always the same, and it’s very notable that this person is not using it. Not sure why he isn’t banned from joining without yet.
I enjoyed the fight. I relied more on the weak aura for the decrees than anything else. At some point I didn’t need the weak aura anymore to know what I had.
These people won’t be playing a higher difficulty anyway. If they are, it’s up to your raid leader to take action.
Dps metets are a good thing.
Without them you can’t really figure out mistakes leading to bad dps, and it’s overall good when you can compare yourself to others . Otherwise half the dps would just press 1-2buttons half afk.
Problem is more when people ignore dmg you prevented, self healing, or mechanics you did leading to a dps loss
For DBM I’m not so sure. As someone who doesn’t raid mythic it’s helpful in the beginning but as soon as you know the bosses better and how they work the addon gets less important. And I know that there are a good amount of players that would have a hard time without it because they don’t have the best reaction anymore.
Thx for those who responded to the post without criticizing me.
I’ve just wanted to open a debat. I had so much to talk about, maybe my message is not structured well enough I’m not a good english speaker. Of course I don’t say logs are making classes boring, logs are great to see your boss fight and find mistakes. Overall, what I wanted to say is that all this tools make an easier game experience than the one originally designed. Maybe the game would me more enjoyable if we have to think about a fight and being active, tracking cooldowns, etc…
