Adjusting Tank Brann - 12 March

Yep, I really enjoy Delves and geared up to 628 by running them in S1 but tuning is way off in S2. Here I am in week 1 of season 2 with zero M+ or Raid gear and I’m already able to clear t11 delves without a single life lost. I’m 635 clearing delves with recommended ilvl of 659 (iirc). That should not be possible.

I am very glad I achieved my T11 completion in week 1 using the healer-tank combination before the upcoming changes.

I believe the current balance is ideal, and I expected it to be changed because it was enjoyable.

Having played this game for a long time, I have noticed that enjoyable aspects are often altered.

Thank you for the achievement. Moving into week 2 and beyond, I expect my time spent in delves will be reduced.

In my opinion, not all healing specialisations are equally effective. For example, the Holy Priest is not strong against groups of enemies or single enemies. The damage output from the “Brann” tank specialisation was well-balanced, defeating enemies quickly enough to provide a good balance between time and damage.

This change will mean my healer-tank combination will take longer to complete a delve, which is disappointing.

I believe Brann’s damage output, regardless of his chosen form, should be adjusted to reflect the player’s current specialisation.

For example, if the player is a healer, Brann’s tanking form should have a greater damage output than if the player were a damage dealer.

Therefore, upon entering a delve, or even when changing specialisations within a delve, Brann’s internal statistics should automatically adjust to reflect the player’s current role.

Is he also getting adjusted to not stand in every fire? Will we get a button to shout at him “DONT STAND IN THAT” or “YOU GOT TAE DODGE?” Is he not going to overpull everything in the room any longer? No? Just making useless spec and make it more squishy? Good job devs, that is what we needed.

Is this a joke? Brann absolutely sucks, the only thing it does is hold aggro but:

  • No survivability.
  • Ninjapulls the whole freaking area for no reason.
  • Curios are trash.
  • No button to make him go forward/stay back like in follower dungeons.

I mean, with these changes this is definitely what players will be doing even more, just focusing on healing Bran.
BLIZZ, your message and changes kind of contradict each other.

Maybe I wouldn’t be hanging back and just focusing on healing him if he was smart enough to move out of damage puddles and then I could do more than pump him with enveloping mist and vivify?

I’ve just had my future self give me an update from tomorrow, and the feedback is the changes stink. I think over-correcting, waiting for feedback and then re-correcting is a terrible way to make changes and having an internal team who can test this and provide feedback instead of releasing it into the wild is a much more satisfying end-user experience. You guys did this with the fishing derby rewards earlier in the expansion too, just stop using a machete when a scalpel is needed.

I mean playing healer with brann (level ~36) as tank is/was way too easy. Had barely 600 GS and zero problems doing t8.
So that nerfs are happening doesn’t surprise me at all but those seems very harsh.

I do think tank Brann warrants a nerf - on my Holy Priest with a level 60 Brann keeping him fully healed is trivial, even above Tier 8 - and my Priest is only at ilvl 609.

60% increased damage intake might be a bit much, however.

Running with Healer Brann on my MM Hunter is pretty trivial as well, though - and overall my fastest runs compared to tanking or healing.

This really seems like a twitchy overreaction to a “problem” that didn’t need addressing. Delves might have been too easy for healers to complete if Tank Brann was essentially carrying you through them, but in that case these changes should only be applied when the player is in a healing spec, no?

It feels like Blizz have made these changes without thinking how they’d impact DPS players. Brann doesn’t do nearly enough damage in our Delve runs for us to be able to kill bosses before he dies (multiple times in some cases) and Healer Brann’s “healing” output is so poor that it might as well not exist. I don’t know what it’s like for other classes, but as a Hunter I’m not able to take more than a few autoattacks from a boss before I’m on the ground. I basically need to kite bosses around until Brann gets back up (or revive him myself if Turtle is available in some situations). This is/was fine, but now it won’t be possible, as Tank Brann will just be dying far too quickly on bosses for him to be worth using as a DPS spec.

This means we’ll have to go back to using Healer Brann, who might as well not exist. Could these changes not only take effect if the player is in a healing spec? Idk, seems like a snap response to the “problem” that hasn’t taken the whole scope of the playerbase into account and will make the game worse for all of us in the long run.

So there was a blue post on the US forums saying they’re sticking with the current nerfs:

Just want to reiterate-- one of our main goals in introducing Brann’s Tank specialization is to make it fun to successfully run Delves as a healer specialization that focuses on healing Brann.

The issue in the first week of Season 2 was that healer + Tank Brann was too effective compared to every other combination of player role and Brann specialization.

As we developed today’s changes, we did solo Healer testing to make sure it’s an enjoyable experience. We’ll continue to test and look for more tuning opportunities, with our goals in mind, in the future.

I mentioned it in my first post but if you’re going to go through with these nerfs you need to fix the bugs and AI issues with Brann first.

  • Fistweaver healing doesn’t work properly on NPCS (this is Brann and NPC followers)
  • On Goblin Shredder bosses he takes full damage (and a huge healing absorb) from the swirls AND stays in the puddles which again screws over some healers, notably Fistweavers

Kind of all of you to assume I’m so good I can do T11s as healer or a tank in lower level gear. I can’t, I’m average and that’s fine, there have to be a majority of C students for the A grades to mean anything.

This is, once again, Blizzard looking at raiders like they are the bar everyone is at or should aspire to be at. This new breed of casuals turned delvers don’t care one jot that raiders are running delves in under 10 mins for gear they will be replacing over the weekend. It does not affect our game in any way shape or form, let us plod on doing T8s in 34 mins, 45 if we meet kingpin and have to run back for the scroll.

We are just happy that we can keep the subscription going in between expansions for literally the first time ever, and Blizzard must be able to see how many of us are sticking around. We are also not the demographic that goes on ptr, they must be able to see that as well.

I don’t know what they want us to do, healers are supposed to stand back and heal, it’s literally our one job. If I have a bad tank who stands in the fire all the time it’s enough work to have to shift to cat to interrupt and then frantically heal him after to plug the gap, I don’t have time to be thinking about doing dps. Yes a better healer in raider gear could do it but Blizzard please, they have raids, let us casuals have our delves.

Speaking of raiders, PSA the BM hunter delve build on wowhead does not have aspect of the beast selected so you lose your speed bonus and 30% of pet dps.

Yet you make M+ easier…

Could you fix the AI in Brann before nerfing him… had a delv where he didn’t even move… BM hunter so didn’t really notice to large pulls…

Also when Bran is set to healer he dies even though nothing is targeting him… running to the chests he randomly dies

He would rather mine herbs and gain agro when tank

O at times he is made out of paper when tank were my caster can face tank lol.

Remove Brann and balance around the solo player or make him work.

And still slower than Tank with DPS Brann… This is Blizzard over reacting for nothing.

I’ve been running two different tanks in delves with DPS Brann and a DPS spec played well with healer Brann are still my fastest runs.

My best this week is with a DH tank lol I can’t run dps with dps Brann so he is healer so might aswell add nothing.

I did make all my characters that can heal into healers… guess they are back to tanks and DPS

I was running Tank Brann with my DPS only one who couldn’t was survival hunter no heals and taking damage :stuck_out_tongue:

Obviously different classes have different experiences, but even with Brann dying more often as healer I’m finding that many Delves are way easier in S2 than S1. Several bosses have been nerfed hard and the spores are much easier to manage now for example.

Paying a subscription to have fun in a videogame and the creators of said game constantly f6ck it up so it’s unfun. I want to stand back and heal brann because that’s what £-7cking healers do. So more content I can’t do to have fun.

What useless Devs.

Brann was already dying like crazy when you’re not playing a healer and now this lol.
Get someone who knows how the game works to look at the numbers for the love of everything…

You are truly the most incompetent and misguided devs on the face of the planet. I was actually having fun as a healer in delves and you decided to ruin that…good job.

Bring back male and female icons you DEI slops.

I hate this. I currently don’t play healer but I do play dps & tank. Tank Brann was such a good implentation for me as a dps and I imagine it felt even better to healers.

As a tank, delves have never been problematic, but as a squishy dps, Healer Brann has always felt atrocious. Actually, let me start by addressing damage dealer Brann, still as a dps player: he doesn’t bring anything to the table, you only play damage dealer Brann as a damage dealer yourself if you’re already capable of rolling on everything in the delve.

Now back to Healer Brann. Don’t get me wrong, Healer Brann is good enough to beat Zekvir Hard Mode at around 620 ilvl, and the Underpin Normal Mode at around 630, sure, but it still feels absolutely terrible to play with Healer Brann. There is no consistent healing, it’s either based on long cooldowns or on potions which the player has to actively move to, this is very bad. Playing with Healer Brann always felt like gambling, or a coin toss. I’ve always hated it with a passion.

Tank Brann was a pretty nice addition because it felt so much better to play with Tank Brann than to play with Healer Brann. But even then, Tank Brann already had his flaws. As a dps player, he couldn’t survive high tier bosses or dangerous packs of mobs. Even when I take the time to use a crowd control, this idiot of an NPC breaks it only to die because of it… That was already infuriating enough on its own, but now you’re making him much more squishy than he already was?! Take away some of his passive dps, sure, but not his toughness! What the hell?!

Also, I was considering playing my pally as a healer in delves in the near future. Now, instead of being excited to try it, I dread how much like Healer Brann it will feel. I fear that a coin flip will decide if Tank Brann goes from 100 to 0 in less than a second.

But to reiterate, really, the worst of the worst to me is how bad it feels for dps players. Please reconsider! Please!! I’m already considering not renewing my game time to World of Warcraft because of how many timegates the game contains these days (did you think this was a F2P game?!), this may really be the deal breaker to me.

Long time player (2004+ over two accounts) Rare commentator.

This is an asinine decision. At some point you decided that players need to work in order to progress. Let me say that again, players need to work to progress. Not have fun, but work.

For high end content, with enhanced rewards, this is understandable, but for delves, particularly solo delves, it’s completely baffling why such an alienating decision was even considered, let alone implemented.

You know what really grinds about this, you will backtrack in the coming weeks, and achieve nothing but further alienation of the player base.

Get a grip. I mean really get a grip on what you perceive the customer experience should be, because recently, you’re sub par.
