[ADRP] What is wrong with Void Elf RP?

Good!

Ya filthy elfling! >:c

Love ya too.

Huh. Never noticed those two. So, two (heretical, traitorous) dancers underwater in some mostly-neutral territory, not exactly setting a standard, but they exist nontheless. I guess dancing in skimpy outfits counts as motivating the troops?

nonotreally

Blizz dot character models around without thought more than once, so you can certainly argue on scantily clad void elves being a Canon Thing™.

I mean, I’m still confused about the second BoD boss Ally-side having a Mag’har monk of that calibre, and I will never cease to be.

Void elves wanting to destroy the sunwell are p much okay with killing off high elves too. But i doubt people put that much thought into it.

There is also Shani and Nicanor Ward who are innkeepers in the Stormwind Outskirts.

Their establishment is not impressive but still they play the role of innkeepers.

Blood elves merrily butcher draenei all day despite the Prophet saving their race, though. Agendas can exist independently as extremely ungrateful practices.

It’s more a case of some players seemingly having a very firm mold prepared for the roles a Void Elf character should occupy, and there are canonical examples of said mold being utter rubbish.

Does it make sense for two party gals to rock out in an underwater bar? Hells to the no. Are they? They sure are.

Right next to the embassy, for anyone curious! The guy is playing with some puppies, it’s quite adorable- but I always assumed they’re innkeepers for Velves who prefer to sleep outside the Rift, given their uh- small ‘inn’.

For the most part, the mold of ‘just do your part in any capacity pls and ty’ seems to very much apply and be accurate. These dancing heretics are an outlier. I’m calling the Human Male Paladin coalition to light them on fire in the middle of Cath sq.

They don’t really kind of worship and pilgrimage to the prophet though- Unless I’ve been handling Belf RP wrong.

I knew you were a monster, but this is cruel even by Scourge standards.

And even then it was kael’s expedition which were also yeeting silvermoon elves into slavery. It’s like equating scarlet crusade actions to Stormwind.

We shall thank the prophet that saved our race by exterminating his, for the Horde. Huzzah!

It’s a silly anime boss fight. I’m more confused at how the Horde version has a regular old draenei talking as if she’s Lightforged.

Hey! Liadrin said we are sorry about that!

Few months ago (when I had lot of free time on my hands), I levelled a Void elf hunter, with aim to RP her as a high elf from Silver Covenant. Never got to it, because, as it turns out, I got way too many characters for RP and I am happy when I have time to RP my main and maybe one alt.
But while thinking of how to approach RP with her, I slowly realized that it´s really tricky. We are talking about member of lore organization who should have some duties, but these duties kinda make it difficult to fit most of RP concepts or events outside of RP-PvP (which I don´t particularly enjoy).

Void elves in this scenario are similar. Yes, storywise they would be part of invasions in Zandalar or searching for Azerite like team from Island Expeditions…but how many guilds are out there that fit this niche?
Even when it comes to military, many guilds that do this type of RP are often made out of average soldiers. Elite Void elf soldier doesn´t really fit that theme either.
Which leads us to another point, being OP. Storywise, there are character concepts more powerful than others. Lightforged and Void elves are storywise stronger than other races, but try to tell other people during event “I am objectively stronger than you”. I doubt you would last in many guilds, because “don´t be OP” is one of main rules for RP, even though at times it makes no sense (yes, that elf who has actual demon inside him should be more powerful than farmer Joe), but it´s what it is.

So, unless you want to be part of Void elf guild, but instead something else (but still want to RP a Void elf), you kinda have to ignore the lore.
I would call it bad, but Blizzard does this themselves. We see Void elves doing all kinds of stuff despite how the lore describes them. Some of this is in line with “I am contributing” theme, but that ordinary soldier serving Lord Schmeckenthecken contributes too, doesn´t he? And isn´t that elf who works as barmaid similar to those two in that underwater bar?

We create all kinds of rules in regards to how certain races behave, what they do, what their mentality might be, but Blizzard, as creators of the story, don´t seem to do so. 10000 years old elves behave like ordinary people, not as ancient beings that are attuned to nature. Draenei also seem to be ordinary dudes and even dragons, those immortal (well, formerly…or just really long-lived, what´s the difference anyway?) guardians of Azeroth, charged by Titans themselves…they aren´t really different from your ordinary human. Chromie is basically a gnome, Senegos is basically a grandpa, Kalec is basically an idiot, they aren´t really that well thought out.
Granted, Blizzard often sucks at this and we shouldn´t get on their level of (often extremely lacking) character complexity, but when they tell us that there are Void elves who just chill out in the world…why do we act as if people RPing elves who decide to serve some noble, mercenary group or military branch as the ones getting their race theme wrong?

To be fair, if you find yourself in a position like myself, where your void elf isn’t in a Void Elf or Seventh Legion guild, and you don’t want them in one, you can always say they partook in known Velf war efforts off-screen. Sinaldra assisted with portalling for Dazar’alor’s siege, she is usually at least in the backlines for magical support whenever you see velves canonically assist the Alliance- but she’s in a guild/community of mages and has other concerns in her free time.

More or less what I do with mine, though I say he’s researching the Void whenever he’s off-screen. Though I try to incorporate that into his character, too, rather than going around looking for an IC boyfriend or something like many of the people I’m talking about seem to do.

Void Elves are not OP. Granted, Alleria is but hey, it’s Alleria. Sure, they have a lot of neat tricks up their sleeve by using the Void but that is really down to every individual.

What I’m saying is that because they have The Void™ it doesn’t mean every one of them suddenly can cast the Armageddon spell (here’s a blast for you Ultima fans) during their coffee break. Some might even barely manage to silence the whispers long enough to get some sleep (hello nightmares btw) let alone master a whole new Magic discipline.
