[ADRP] What is wrong with Void Elf RP?

Shadow Elves would have been a cooler name anyway.

Edgier you mean.

Those are the same to me. Have you seen my race of choice?

A better name would be Strangled Undead elf.

As an ethnic undead, I take offense to this.

Almost anything sounds better than Void Elf. When I first read that name I expected a black hole with elven eyebrows bobbing down the street. And I was denied it.

The fact i have’t met a void elf that is actually a void elf. There either Alliance Belves or to coin an old meme “not a dk IC”. You have a voice in your head constantly tempting you to give in to the void. You got kicked out of your home for trying to protect it. Your not going to be skipping around Stormwind drinking iced tea and eating nibbles.

Isn’t this the case for almost every Alliance race though? I think the dwarves are the only ones who haven’t had a somewhat recent expulsion from / loss of their home.

The Wildhammer look up at Grim Batol and begin to weep into their beards.

inb4 “well at least its not teldrassil !!!” comments.

Do we have hard Lore explaining how the average void elf suffers? I dont play Alliance or island expeditions so I might have missed out on this
I doubt its the same as for shadow priests for all of them

Aside from Alleria’s voice issue? It’s highly implied if not stated outright that the void elves suffer the same ordeal but that she’s teaching them to deal.

That’s basically what shal’dorei translates into.

It can be difficult to portray the effects of the whispers in open RP. Other than subtle hints and comments on dealing with it. The Void Elves we see, other than the one comical Void Elf in the Island Expeditions, present themselves with an outer composure. It is a must, for if they start to show signs of being unstable then the Alliance would not have them around due to the risk. The Void Elves as a race are also on a mission to prove those that doubt them wrong, they have been intensely trained to contain the conflict within them and so acting calm is not to be unexpected. That is not to say there is not chaos within their minds. I imagine to some they might come across just like a purple Blood Elf because of this.

Worth noting that it is a lot easier to show the effects of the whispers in stories, as you can show the conflict in their mind in writing.

Not sure if many favour iced tea but might be interesting for some to know that some Void Elves actually do still like a stiff drink. There is an NPC ingame who states they are off to get such. But of course acting like a Human drunkard would be silly. It becomes a matter of common sense, they would not over do it for obvious reasons. I don’t think it is wrong for a Void Elf to on occasion join a social gathering of sorts, but they would be on their best behaviour in trying to portray their race in a good light to combat the negative assumption some would have of Void Elves or else they might be stand offish if the gathering was not one they intended to join.

I also agree that pickpockets and the likes would be ruled out. And if you do you can expect your fellow Void Elves to come looking for you due to the fact you are going against their mission to prove those who doubt them wrong and risk their fragile reputation in the Alliance.

Void elves constantly hear voices from the Void that seek to corrupt them, something they have learned to fight against and keep control over. This assault is relentless and the discipline needed to resist them is extraordinary. The voices say many things, from lies, to things that are true from a certain point of view, things that sound true, and things that one would wish were true.

The above is what they constantly have going on in their minds, directly taken from Wowpedia.

We also have the tailor who mentioned it took some time for him to recover:

"I will admit, it took some time to grow accustomed to our transformation. At first, my usual dexterity felt… impeded.

However, I can guarantee the techniques themselves have in no way been affected."

Other than that there is not a great deal and they appear to contain it for the most part.

Pretty sure like, the whole thing that plays when you make one says ‘hey buckaroo good job you’re pretty much in control now’, so, most of the time, it shouldn’t be RP’d out unless they’re going through some hardcore emotional/mental stress.

Wanna form a group designated to hunt void elven pickpockets or any others that harm the reputation of the race? Now that I think of it, that could be good fun.

Having a squad of people with the intention of purging/punishing those who harm the perception of their people is super sin’dorei, I like it a lot.

Oh, yeah, I agree with Salrathin. Of course they struggle with whispers, but they’re a vain, proud people, they absolutely won’t show any of it without good reason. Besides, you would be surprised how easy it is to ignore words unless they are spoken in convenient situations, and not all of them ARE convenient.

What always works well is Velves changing opinions, hesitating in strange situations or coming to a conclusion a little rashly. Imagine someone is doing something reckless and uncharacteristic, and those whispers start speaking of treason and true intentions, of how that person is dangerous- you don’t need to believe them for an opinion to be planted in your head for consideration.

Other than that, Void Elves are canonically not portrayed to be doing anything with the whispers. We did have a Umbric in tow for a whole mission, and he was just- uh, being himself, rather.

What’s really wrong with void elf RP? Only about four mogs look any good on them with their dark and wiggly aesthetic.

That’s a very valid concern. My red, elvish mogs don’t look too good on velves. :frowning:
