Looking to get into RP again, was thinking about going with Zandalari Monk. Anyone got some tips?
Have fun with it. Chi seems to follow the DBZ rules of “comes from within, learn to do whatever.” Unlike Arcana or other forms of magic it’s VERY loose with what its limitations are. So just have some fun with it.
Zandalari is one of the most exotic of the monk races (for example, there are no known Zandalari monks in the lore or NPCs in the game whatsoever) so thought must be put into the character’s background.
For one, Zandalari are one of the greatest of Pandaria’s ancestral enemies, and while the pandaren are a forgiving people you’d probably still be seen as an oddity at best by fellow Zandalari (who, all things considered, seem considerably less forgiving).
Many Zandalari monk RPers I see simply play the class OOC but IC RP something different, which is also an option. Martial loa devotees, things like that.
Imagine how rare a pandaren follower of the troll loa, dressing in troll gear and so on would be, and you get some idea about the other way around as well.
I did think about them being enemies in the past, at first I thought that would make it pretty much unplayable. If you really think about it though, it gives a Zandalari a very strong in road in wanting to become a monk if done right.
They have had a hell of alot of first hand experience in seeing how capable the monks can be in a fight, which goes a long way with a troll.
I also think the Pandaran revering the celestials is something a troll would respect above most other races. I imagine a troll would even compare it to loa worship, which could also be a big draw.
As for the Pandaran, I really don’t think they are the type to hold grudges like that, especially not to someone who is a willing student.
Probably not perfect but just some of the thoughts ive had around that.
Now that they are aligned with the Horde, could they not simply find a teacher in the faction? Would not even have to be a Pandaren teacher at this point, as the other Horde races have had years to hone the craft.
Granted, this makes them an apprentice rather than an instantly capable combatant.
Obviously. I never said that it is impossible. Of course, if you ask me, I’d rather Zandalari would have received warlock as a class instead. But monks are as lore-abused as they are, so, I guess it wouldn’t matter. People can RP what they want.
People in general tend to just jump to master right away. I see people use all kinds of things to justify it, like humans saying they grew up on Pandaria and things like that.
It’s just the way it is.
I wasn’t going to make them an instant master or anything like that, don’t worry.
Remember. You are a Zandalari. Using your enemy’s weapon against themselves is a good strategy.
The thing is: Remember to not overdo it, as in: “I can use my very palm to destroy your plate armour with one little touch!”
That’s a good first approach.
Just look at that upcoming monk tournament, the masters bracket (20+ years of experience) is mostly non-pandaren, which is pretty funny when you think about it.
Might even be some prestige in it. The monks might not have been the main repellent when the Zandalari attempted to invade Pandaria in ages past, but they would all but certainly have taken some notes on that odd, foreign martial teaching. Some would no doubt be quite interested in bringing that power to Zandalar.
Others might scoff and look down on outsider-type skill sets. They’re a proud race after all.
As a novice? Probably not. A fully trained Monk? I rather thought that was the entire point.
As a novice, that is of course.
I would argue that this mindset would only make the trainers wary.
That is pretty odd, I’m honestly surprised to hear the other races can even be considered teachers yet, let alone masters.
Do you guys think my Zandalari would have to learn from another race? I don’t think a Zandalari would be too happy about that!
Absolutely. Zandalari have had access to monk training for less than a year at most.
I’d be inclined to agree if they were Pandaren. Otherwise I don’t see much reason for that sort of caution.
Well yeah, who else would do the training? Non-pandaren novices who have had like 3 years of practice, as opposed to pandaren who have had twenty times that?
We have had non-Pandaren monks as raid bosses, so the craft doesn’t seem comparable to real life martial arts in terms of difficulty. Not saying a 30 years+ Pandaren wouldn’t outshine a 5 year Monk of another race, but that does not make the other any less formidable.
WoW likes making people master things instantly when it is plot-convenient (see: the player character) but that doesn’t mean it’s good RP to be a mary sue.
I would argue this point. It feels as a sort of gameplay excuse. Especially it is an AU Mag’har.
This.
So there is no way what so ever they could have learned from a Pandaran? I don’t think my Zandalari would even bother if they had to learn from another race, would see it as petty training, like learning about the loa from a night elf. Haha
