Advice for self-sustained soloing out there?

Heya.

I got every class minus Evoker. I like plate DPS and tanking a lot (Warrior and Ret, DK less than them because Unholy is very fragile and ramps up damage), I love my druid more and more (doing bear and cat play) and my BM hunter is an absolute boss in soloing stuff. My Enhancement Shaman is a guilty pleasure that I’ll likely never give up.

With that out of the way, I am severely disappointed with the survival of the toons I play the most:

  • Enh is doing very well since she can basically have a free heal every two casts BUT it comes at the price of less DPS which doesn’t work too well.
  • Unholy DK is fragile and has the same tradeoffs like Enh: you can use Death Strike but your numbers suffer and if you pulled 3x elite mobs with 800k HP, it takes a while (or you die if you get greedy).
  • Fury Warrior I enjoy the most from all my toons but let’s face it, unless she pops the spinning weapon, the Kyrian spear, Avatar AND Recklessness, she’s not doing much. In the War Creche, 3x elites at 500k HP each can and have killed her. The big self-heal is on 20+ seconds CD and it resets… if you kill one of the NPCs in the meantime. Which I often do but… she’s somehow… not reliable, let’s call it.
  • Ret is still not at 70 but she’s doing awesome so far, especially after 10.0.7 hit. Looking forward to see how she fares in the War Creche.
  • Feral Druid. GOD I LOVE THAT GAMEPLAY. The numbers! The druid has to be the most flexible and nimble class I’ve played and she’s #2 in my ranking list of characters that survive well doing elite world content solo. I can praise her all day.
  • #1 is obviously Beast Mastery hunter. I spoiled myself with her without realizing it. I was able to kill 99% of everything that I crossed paths with and when I started playing my other characters I got a very cold shower. But she’s awesome. Rotation and gameplay are definitely boring but she’s super reliable.

My question is as per title: what would you recommend I could do to be able to e.g. reliably do the Cobalt Catastrophe and War Creche solo?

I can’t say I’ve done a lot of homework, admittedly, just putting the question here and hoping somebody can dispense some actual wisdom.

Thank you.

Any tank. Preferably one with constant self-healz.

My Protadin fears nothing solo except a World Boss.

Give your Ret a shot at Prot, or take your Cat Bear. Blood your DK. EZ,

Warrior would work, but you might be busier than you would like.

Yeah tanks work fine, it’s very hard to die.

My Blood DK does 12k DPS though, lol. It’s pitiful. The bear and the warrior work alright. I’ll give a shot to my paladin once I finish her leveling soon.

Any advice for a DPS though? Am I missing some potions or whatever that make the elite zones viable? Or no such thing, tank or GTFO?

The most hardcore one I have currently is a guardian druid. Does loads of DPS and can take it. Prot Pally is great for survival but hits like a wet noodle. I don’t like the other tank classes except maybe vengeance DH but I prefer Havoc so I can’t really say. Until you get better gear, it’s going to be a bit of a struggle. Just be careful or try to join in on a zerg.
DPS classes, bar BM Hunter, may get better with more gear but I always make sure other people are around!

Hm. I know specs go up and down but I have generally found Paladin and Warrior to be the tanks that kill things fastest for me. See also, for example, https://www.simulationcraft.org/reports/T29_Raid.html

Of course, all of them pretty much suck single-target but perform like a machine if you pull as much of the zone as you can, which you can do in the world in Tank spec.

But in my very amateurish but practical experience with them, I’d put Pally and Warrior at the top, then Vengeance and Guardian, and Blood pretty much always last. I don’t bring my Monk out enough to opine.

And when it comes to the feel of them, I just love Paladin. And as you say, Paladin has every tool in the world and then some for surviving.

Well, BM and Warlock with a Voidie are hands-down the most survivable soloing specs, but I find I’m vulnerable to swarming - overpulling and failing to keep aggro on my pet. Now, a lot of that could be that I suck at BM, but part of why I suck in that condition is that I so rarely need to play defensively as BM that I have never developed any skills. BM is just so easy to cruise through the world with.

I know that I SHOULD be concentrating more on my misdirect, traps, slow. I know I SHOULD be using Exhilaration more often in a big pull, but I keep assuming it’s going to be ok :stuck_out_tongue:

I do keep a stack of Healing pots on a hotkey. Shameful that a BM needs them in the world, maybe, but they have saved me lots of times.

I don’t even know what I actually do special, if anything, becauseI don’t think about it enough.

I’ll take my Hunter out to Brackenspire or the Cobalt area and see if anything occurs to me.

What is your Hunter’s ilevel? Makes a huge difference.

P.S. So I took my Hunter out to Cobalt. 389, Rhino pet. As I arrived, Srivantor was up, so I pulled him and his pals around him. It went fine; I never felt the need to do anything special. I did need an Exhil for the Rhino halfway through, but that was all. God bless Ferocity’s Leech (OP, but don’t tell the devs :P)

She’s 388, with a good crafted bow (389) and 3 set items.

She’s doing well. Brackenhide is also mostly without issues, minus pulling several casters and dying of dots. Working on 4th tier set currently.

Haha, I could relate up until a month ago but I stubbornly tried to take many rares so I bought healing potions and just practiced until I learned all defensive CDs really.

My pet is Clefthoof btw. They are the real MVP. They survive really well and you still have access to Bloodlust.

To be fair, I never had problems with single rares. Where I go wrong is extra pulls that my pet doesn’t get aggro on.

Yeah, good move. A Rhino is just a species of Clefthooof. They do seem to be top dogs for soloing this expansion.
