Advise for Outlaw Rogue (PvE Only)

Hello! So I’ve decided to gear this rogue up and get into some more serious content with him.
I’m having a blast as Outlaw and the gameplay has a totally different dimension when playing as a pirate-like character!
However, I’ve come up with a couple of things that started to bother me and I’m also looking for a bit of help if possible!

Things I love:

  • M+ and AoE damage is superb. I love it when I see numbers skyrocket even over 30k!!! Outlaw is pure perfection in M+ dungeons.

  • Open world PvE is super fun, enemies die easily and I can go around vanishing in stealth and quickly dispatching my enemies without relying on dots (like assassination) and without ‘being all over the place’ (like subtlety).

  • Rotation is simple, fun and helps you focus on mechanics.

Things that are bothering me (PURELY PVE):

  • Despite the super fun gameplay, I’ve noticed that I am not performing too well as Outlaw. I am not certain if it’s something that I’m doing wrong, or if it’s just the spec that is falling behind in damage.
I have a 379 Survival Hunter (my main raiding character) and I get the burst damage of over 22k, sustained damage can stick up to 17k and above depending on encounter.

  • As Outlaw, I can hardly hit 16k burst if lucky. If lucky, by that I mean if I’ll get a perfect buff from Roll the Bones. (My item level is 374, give or take some items that need replacing)

  • So…burst, which is almost never 16k, burst can go down to 13k and sustained damage goes down to 10k and sometimes 9k even…which makes me a bit … degraded, considering how easily my Survival Hunter pumps numbers without relying on any kind of RNG.

  • RNG from Roll the Bones really gets me. Sometimes I’ll just roll and roll and roll and never get the buff I need, or even a decent replacement, while losing on DPS in the process.

  • Sometimes the damage will shine and stay at like…16k-ish, which mainly happens if I get a perfect buff during my burst/opener. How often does that happen though? It’s a bit frustrating.

I wanted to make this character my primary raiding character, but seeing how ‘‘poorly’’ compared to Survival Hunter the Outlaw Rogue performs…I am no longer certain if I want to do this.

Talents
I am using the talents from Icy-Veins guide, as well as Azerite Traits (that I managed to get) and the rotation, basically I am trying to follow the rotation without a single mistake, yet still I find myself greatly struggling due to RNG.

Now come my questions:

  • Am I doing something wrong?
  • What is the stat priority for Outlaw? (Icy veins says one thing, some people say another, WoWhead guide tells a different story too, I am not sure what to follow!)
  • What are people’s experiences with Outlaw rogues in raids?
  • Do you have any tips and advises?
  • What is the most ideal opener/burst for Outlaw Rogue?
  • What talent do you prefer, Blade Rush or Killing Spree?
  • Is it worth dropping Roll the Bones for Slice and Dice?

Any help is appreciated, thanks for your patience! ^^

Hi there fellow outlaw rogue!

Here are my humble advices.

Use bloodmallet website for your star priority. It will help alot.
Uldir raid was really good for outlaws due to many mobs with boss so i had no problem. Even in single target bosses i was in a decent position. Outlaw rogue has sustained damage do not have too much of an opener exept then starting with ambush and roll dice then enrage and so on. I play with 3x deathshot (i take 1x archive of titans ofc for the buff in Uldir) it works fine for me. Generally what i see is if i start with 18-20k dps i finish the fight around 16k so it is a constant good amount of damage.
I generally use KS but Blade rush is needed in some fights because you lose control of your charter in KS for 2 seconds you need to decide depending on the fight. You can chech wowlog website to check what people generally used in that fight.
Never take slice and dice

And it is best if you also play assasin for single target bosses and swap to outlaw if the fight contains multiple targets.

For M+ dungeons outlaw is fantastic

Any more questions i can try to help.
Cheers

Thanks for your response and tips!

I believe there’s a world of difference when you have 3x Deadshot as Azerite Trait, as that must significantly increase damage. I have yet to get 2 more, as I am only traited with one Deadshot.

I haven’t raided Uldir with this character yet, so I can’t say how he performs with buffs, pots and Hero/Lust, I do expect a sustained 15k DPS at least. (and the haste buff from raid, almost forgot about that!)

I ran raidbot sim and got to find out which stats will give me the best result; thanks for the tip I’ll be sure to check that out too! ^^

As for KS, I have to say it’s such a fun skill! Blade Rush feels a bit dull compared to KS which is really bursty and fun to use, the animation is crazy as well!
The only downside is that you can’t control the character while doing so, but still…I believe I’ll keep it over Blade Rush for now.
Will see how it goes in raids though!

I never liked Assassination rogue, dots are something I really loathe hahah, it’s why I chose Outlaw in the first place, plus I really love Outlaw’s theme!

Got one more question though!
What is your opener/starter before the fight? When is the best to use Adrenaline Rush? And when is the best to use KS? Is it right at the start, or do you delay KS a bit?

As for Roll the Bones, how often do you ‘reroll’? It’s a significant loss if one keeps rerolling no doubt as you lose on combo points and energy, so I’m never really sure if I should just stick to the buff I get or reroll until I get the decent buffs?

Sorry for late response.

I always use my adrenaline rush and KS at start after using some energy and roll my bones. Because everytime we spend combo points we regain same amount of time (double if you have true bearing buff). You wouldnt like to miss that opportunity to use your KS and Adrenaline Rush multiple times in the encounter.

I roll until i get ruthless precision or grand melee or two of any buffs generally. If fight is not that important i stick with broadside and do not reroll.

Basically thats it.

Hope that helps
