Afflicted Feedback

So. After a whole week of playing with afflicted, I can safely say that the affix is good by design but very poorly implemented.

UI Issues

This is probably the biggest issue. Most people have issues finding the Afflicted mobs. Due to nameplate restrictions you cannot properly see the afflicted mobs.

In big pulls or in encounters with big bosses, it is really hard to see the afflicted mobs (worst is when they spawn inside of a big mob pull. GL with your mouseover macro in that case). This only gets harder when you have to focus on other stuff as well (such as boss mechanics)

Another bad thing is, that just like incorporeal, afflicted mobs can spawn in obstructed areas:

I cannot post images :frowning:
But it’s an incorporeal mob where you can only see its “feet” and the rest is stuck in the wall/ceiling.

I know this screenshot is of an Incorporeal mob but afflicted can spawn in the same way, try targeting such a spawn without a nameplate.

Just the nameplate alone makes incorporeal so much more enjoyable.

Visibility

When Incorporeal ads spawn they have a big effect and a small “rune” on the ground that shows where they spawn. The effect for afflicted ads is almost invisible.

I get that from a design point of view afflicted mobs are “souls” and thus have to look like this. However if we can’t get nameplates to work (not just the names) the models and effects should be changed to be more visible (like Incorporeal mobs).

Another thing is, either one or two ads can spawn. If you don’t have a Weakaura/Addon which tells you how many ads there are, you start to look around and try to find the second one (even if only one has spawned)

Audio Queue

When playing the game without any addons/weakauras you don’t know that an afflicted mob has spawned. As mentioned above the effect of them spawning is very subtle and the mob itself isn’t very visible. If changing the models isn’t an option, then there should be an audio queue. Just like with every other affix which has visibility issues (Quaking, Entangling, Thundering).

This also would be an issue with incorporeal, but due to the big effect when an incorporeal spawns, it’s hard to miss.

Exclusion of some classes

This is somewhat a more personal point. I play hunter. I cannot “participate” in handling this affix in any way. the only thing I can do is line of sight the mob when other players don’t handle it to prevent getting the debuff. When I play in a premade group and we’re in discord, I can at least call the positions of the mobs.

But it feels incredibly stupid to have an affix that I cannot participate in as a hunter. Compared to Incorporeal, every class can do at least something (stun, interrupt) to prevent the ads from casting.

Conclusion

The new affixes are definitely better now than they were on PTR, but for afflicted it needs a tiny QoL improvement to make the affix as perfect as the others. Would love to see something getting implemented that makes the affix more visible.

Thanks

Yep, this is my biggest complaint about the affix. It’s straight up a fight against the UI.

What do you mean with nameplate restriction?

I never had any issues with afflicted mobs - I use dbm and it alerts me any time it spawns - the enemy UI shows nameplates, don’t cry over nothing

But the Afflicted are Friendly Nameplates.

You can still see them

They’re using friendly nameplates.

Addons are not allowed to modify them the same way enemy nameplates can be. This was restricted way back because of nameplate modifications that completely trivialized some PVE encounters in a similar way to how some of the more advanced WAs can do now.

The standard UI allows you to see them, so surely add-ons do

Yes, but Friendly Nameplaytes are not as customisable as Enemyname Plates.

You can see them but you can’t modify them, so they’re in a sea of modified enemy nameplates if they spawn in a pack, using the base nameplate because they’re friendly nameplates. It quickly turns into the modified enemy nameplates overlapping them due to this base nameplate not being modifiable, so you have to try to target the model but because they’re in a pack that gets cumbersome as well because you can inadvertently target friendly melee players models or the enemies models when you have to resort to trying to dispel with a mouseover on the model.

You’re fighting against the UI essentially.

You only need to see them, what else do you need?

I’m genuinely curious. Trying to understand the issue

I can confirm this from my own perspective. You can see them rather fair spawning (if you are zoomed out with camera far enough) but the targeting with a mouse is very hard to do sometimes. At least for me.

Agreed. But I would strongly recommend to not change the color too much due to color blindness of some people (not me tho). Maybe pick a fitting color also color-blind people can see good enough and maybe adjust the “fog” texture of the mob to be more visible by making it a bit less transparent.

I am not affected by this but heard quite often of this problem. Hence why I proposed in an other thread that for classes like Hunters there should be also something added they can work with.

Not much, besides the point that i would like to changere there Nameplates, so i can get them a little bit easier as a Healer, i have enough Bars i need to worry about, and the basic UI Platers are just meh at best.

They’re not going to actually allow that.

They disabled the possiblity to modify friendly nameplates for a good reason.

To be fair, i got used to it anyways, but at first it kinda annoyed me more then it does now. I would still like it if we could customize it to make it a little bit easier, specially when they spawn god knows where, have had it a few times where they spawned, only saw one dispell it just to later get hit with one that litteraly noone in the entire group even saw.

Just because it spawned somewhere behind a cornor, HoI Doors for example are a prime oportunity for them to never be seen.

one of the most retarded affixes I’ve ever seen. Worst part is that everyone is convinced it’s the healer’s job to deal with them. It’s fine to deal with one. But there are 2, more often than not. In which case, you’re literally at mercy of some1 else noticing and pressing button. and when something goes wrong? Yeah, you guessed it. Every idiot in partychat: “HEAL???” xDD I’ve had SO enough of this xD

If the next fortified has Bolstering again, i’m quitting the game exept for raid-logging. cba with this retarded BS

Honestly it felt like an easier affix last week. The fact dps can also help it or purge it helps a lot and you can also los them they become quite harmless. The only issue is sometimes they spawn behind you so you gotta look around
