Affliction Warlock: Constructive Feedback for PvE Balance

Hello everyone,

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft for quite a long time now, and Affliction Warlock has always been my main spec and passion throughout the years. While I don’t claim to be among the top players, I care deeply about the spec and its place in PvE — especially in Mythic+ dungeons, where I feel it’s been falling behind.

Recently, I took the time to write up a document outlining some of the challenges Affliction currently faces, and a few suggestions that could improve gameplay fluidity and competitiveness, without disrupting the class’s core identity or balance.

Here are some of the main issues I touched on:

  • AoE damage feels slow and setup-heavy compared to other DoT-based specs.
  • Some talents feel underwhelming or require too many points for too little return (especially when compared to similar designs in other specs).
  • Soul shard generation can feel inconsistent and limiting in both single-target and AoE.

I’m sharing this here in the hopes that it can contribute to the ongoing conversation around Affliction’s future, and perhaps help highlight some areas for thoughtful improvement.

Thanks very much for reading — I’m open to any feedback or discussion.

Just a quick update: the PDF link I posted yesterday for the Affliction Warlock guide was broken — sorry about that! I’ve fixed it now, and the correct link should be working properly.
You should be able to access the PDF without any issues.

Thanks for your patience, and let me know if there are any more problems!
