Afflicton Warlock or Shadow Priest?

For a DoT Caster would Shadow or Affli Lock Pros and Cons?

I’ve just levelled my Lock (mained Aff Lock since vanilla) but haven’t levelled my SP yet. I always liked the explosiveness of SP and the rotation felt so tight I really enjoyed it.

As for Aff I find it in a strange place. On paper it’s all amazing and the potential for damage is up there but the reality is when you go into dungeons you will be playing the keyboard like Mozart just to stay above the healer on damage unless there is a pretty big and sustained pull - then you’ll begin to open up. Problem is that rarely happens so for the most part you’ll be dealing with small trash and you’ll find they’re already half dead by the time you even cast Seed.

I’ve been trying to think of a build that works but it’s like we’re caught between a rock and a hard place because you almost certainly have to commit hard to either AOE or ST and well you will lose out either way - good DPS on boss or good on adds? Pick your build.

Still, I enjoy the tinkering but the reality always hits home when my fingers are on fire just to churn out what others exceed with 2 buttons.

Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. I’m not sure where SPs are atm but on damage I don’t think they too far from Aff locks. According to some sites Aff lock and SP are B-tier, on other Aff Lock is a tier lower, so they aren’t a kick in the butt from each other. I think if you want pure damage then Havoc DH seems a safe bet.

Oh and I’m only talking about PVE here. PvP, esp open PVP is a little different, some nice options on Aff lock there!

P.S. Scrap that last comment, apparently we’re getting steamrolled in PVP.

both are bad atm in pve, sp feels way smoother tbh.

one hundred percent SP, aff is around 250% the effort for 70% the damage

And yes as @Venger said, PvP locks are training dummies.
Personally I’ve always played Dest/Affli but they are bottom of the barrel.
If you see a rogue just alt+f4

SP feels like a spec that has issues, Aff feels like a poor excuse for a spec.

Look, its daedra himself!

Still kicking with a Demo?

As always, I think if my love for demo was some sort of medical condition that I would have the most severe case of it.

I feel the same for Affliction. Haven’t played any other spec since vanilla, oh wait I played Destruction for a little bit when we had backdraft and instant SB procs, can’t remember when that was though but hell it was fun!

But yes I feel the same about my beloved Aff spec, feel naked without my dots but man it’s been a hard road these past few years and it’s getting harder.

Affi lock is good for open world content. Just corruption tag everything and let everyone else do the work, then reap the loot. Key farming, elemental farming any WQ that needs to kill x. Why? because You wont have time to do anything else. The problem with affliction is the time needed to dot everything before it gets killed by litterally any other class now. I would not be mad if we could spread the dots with drain soul. It already work like this with warrior I believe where You bleed one mob and use thunder clap to spread it to all other mobs. A warrior can do better job at applying a dot than the dot class (!). And a moonkin ofc.

Affli is very undertuned atm… but you can make it work. For M+ Affli falls behind alot, but for raiding Id say they are pretty decent. Nothing crazy though and quite a bit of effort needed.
