Is there any reason the world PvP quest ‘‘Against Overwhelming Odds’’ is available only to the Alliance? (Apart from the name…)
It does not encourage world PvP at all, it simply encourages alliance to form a 20 man killing-machine at certain pinch points such as in the Maw, by the Oribos portal. As a horde, it is impossible to form a counterattack as there is no incentive for horde players to do so.
I think this would have worked much better if the quest was available to both factions, much like in BFA. There would be a reason for BOTH factions to form groups, and to form counterattack groups. This was seen in BFA in Nazjatar for example, where a group of alliance killing people would attract a group of horde players, and a skirmish would unfold.
Oh what else do you want m8? Mb you know, let’s just delete alliance, because sometimes there is this 1 rogue that can kill you. Or let’s just give everything to horde, so there is literally no downside to play it.
Blizzard should give even more incentive to play alliance by deleting mercenary mode.
Because the Alliance is overwhelmed by the zug zugs, you have more people in the Horde. If you get outnumbered in War Mode it is because of the shard you in.
The BFA model was much better. There were actual back and forth battles between the horde and alliance. Sometimes, the horde base had an alliance army at the entrance, and sometimes vice versa. However there was nearly always a resistance force from opposite faction.
Here in Shadowlands, those battles are non-existent for both factions. If I play my alliance character, every group i join for the quest simply aims to kill horde that are trying to reach the Oribos portal, and that is pathetic. There’s no battle, just ganking.
Bring back the BFA version, give both factions the world PvP quest.
Yes, the Horde is outnumbering the Alliance on the majority of shards. They don’t need more incentive, the Alliance seems to need it. Still the mob ganking these quests encourage is really awful.
Alliance is underrepresented because of the disparity in racial bonuses. Now sadly at this point the whole dynamic is a pendulum, so if you just buffed alliance passives to equal horde ones, nothing would change.
If you overbuffed them we’d look at the exact same situation from the opposite side.
In essence, the only real way to resolve this long term is to make everything cross faction, disable world PvP and keep Battlegrounds and Arenas as anyone vs anyone.
I dont mind getting stomped by alliance .atleast in my shard whenever I have complained .i have seen willing horde players coming to the rescue.
As a horde you enable pvp war mode on to get pvp fun .not for rewards
Yeah I’d be fine with merging the factions. Perhaps there could instead be a toggle to join a ‘‘mercenary’’ faction whereby you’re hostile to everyone.
It’s not like the “but the story” excuse of not merging the factions holds any merit anymore either, every expansion (or every other one) blizzard needs to contrive a new terribly illogical conflict that every plot point has to resist resolving just to keep the war going.
You can’t do the quest with 20 people. 5 max. Also Alliance gets it to encourage players to turn on wm, they also get a 30% xp buff. What im wondering is why Alliance gets this on rp servers. Since those servers don’t phase and rp servers are mostly populated by Alliance. So not only do they outnumber the Horde by 25 to 30 % they also get the quest and the massive xp buff.
in my experience it is usually a few groups of 5 camping the Maw entrance. But also i’m not sure it encourages players to turn war mode on anyway, the majority of people in my group seem to only turn it on to camp the Maw entrance, then hearth out & turn it off again.
This is because at max level even the 30% buff doesn’t justify even one pvp engagement or lost mob worth of wasted time - it doesn’t scale with enough things for that.
For Alliance WM is basically to level (there it’s pretty good, a 20% more modifier to your open world progress in general.) and to do the quest.
Im not again this “help” for aliance to get more into wpvp.
But with how maw works ( phasing and such where u cant get a group unless u are in oribos or so) it would be actualy fun to watch how people will do this quest if it worked in party only.
Instead of 40aliance hunting down alone horde there will be only 5. Which is at least counterable somehow.
