Aggro in Pulls as a Tank

First of all, this might be a specific problem for Demonhunter Tanks. But i noticed that even after several seconds, you just loose aggro in a bigger pull without the talent Spirit Bomb. DPS are doing 15-20 million and as a dh, you just cant catch up. In some cases mobs are just running away from you entirely and melee dps oder the healer. What am i supposed to do? None of the aoe abilities generate high threat except the very first tick of immolation aura. This just doesnt feel right in higher keys were tanks get shredded all the time… i dont wanna play the “hold the aggro” game.

Roll prot warr and forget about it, charge in every pull wit Avatar + thunderclap and you are set hehe.

Sigil of flame doesnt generate threat unless you are already in combat with the mobs when it hits. you can’t use it to pre pull or engage. That’s a big mistake I see lots of DHs making.

Good tip, didn’t know. I always use Spirit Bomb as well.

What I did was Demon Spikes → SoF → Jump in group → imm, so I need to do SoF last instead ?

As BDK I have 0 issues, I used to struggle, but now I know the spec better and it’s not really hard.

It’s as you say mostly a vdh issue. Since expansion release sigil of flame (and I think sigil of spite, but I ain’t sure) doesn’t generate threat on mobs that aren’t currently in combat with you. Throw glaive and reavers glaive are also bugged and doesn’t generate threat at all.

What you can do is to use immolation auras initial burst to generate good agro, throw glaive or body pull the next pack to get them into combat (you have no agro on those yet), and follow up with sigil of flame, sigil of spite, or fel devastation.

You can also use your mobility to skip ahead a bit of your group to establish threat whilst they try to catch up.

It’s not optimal, but those things are somewhat effective when it comes to countering the bugs that blizzard aren’t fixing.

Note

If you use infernal leap to jump into the middle of the packs you risk getting killed due to taking synchronized hits all at once, rather fel rush in and follow up with immolation aura. You can also use The Hunt and infernal leap during the charge/movement to land the hit whilst ending up wherever you choose to land. A good way to pull and gain threat, proccing reavers glaive, and avoiding taking unnecessary melee hits whilst gathering packs.
