Curious about the general consensus… Do you think AI art is fine on AA? I’m just being nosy. It seemed it was fine when it first came out, but now with AI being so controversial, it seems people are against it?
Can also discuss it I guess.

AI art is theft and theft shouldn’t be enabled.
Ai idiot here.
Why is it theft?
Eh… The poll is too simple for me.
You see, I don’t mind AI art if people announce that it is AI art generated by a prompt, but if they claim they made it, it is 100% a no-go for me. I love character art, and I would of course support it, but I don’t mind the use of AI art for scene prompts, ideas, or inspiration - as long as they aren’t calling it their work, and that it is tagged as AI art.
A little of what I think DeviantArt is missing too. A visible marker for AI art, maybe a filtering so you cannot see AI art and report it if they claim to have made it themselves.
Artists: “people are making money off of derivative versions of my work, that is itself a derivation of hundreds or thousands of hours of absorbing existing art to develop my own style!”
Musicians: “first time?”
Commonly because to generate a piece of “art” it takes in samples from other artists/projects that fits in with the result it has been requested to produce, thus ‘borrowing’ from other artists without consent. It gets worse if someone then claims that they have made it, and thus taken fragments from other artists to make their “own” without any notice to them.
This is one of the sad examples which also makes AI art generators difficult to fight due to there being made an allowance of using fragments of other’s work, like music, as long as it does not resemble too much the original ‘borrowed’ pieces.
Might be a cold or hot take but;
With AA being such a niche that is very outdated / old to the Server with it’s players and such I don’t think it really matters?
If you was to be plugging it and outsourcing it majorly to the broader community then I think it shouldn’t really be used because a lot of the Artists on AD are great artists and aren’t that expensive either for the work and investment between them and you for your own character.
AI Art is free and easy to grab I guess but, I would still rather have the interaction with an actual artist and would do my best to expose the artists as much as possible.
TL;DR - I guess it’s fine for AA but for AD I would prefer people to go to the actual artists like Acrona, Mystmantle, CatNip, etc. They’re all great artists and completely deserve recognition especially from our Community atleast.
I think you’re underselling AA there. It’s still very widely used and is popular in the community.
Maybe? Maybe not? I don’t think many of the newer RP’ers know about AA or actively use it outside of the more older people on the realm.
I could be wrong though.
I don’t know, personally. I understand the frustration because I’ve experienced it myself, but good art is good art, and more of it in the world is a good thing no matter where it comes from in my books. Art is form and function just like music no matter who or what made it, and just as you can’t copyright the natural minor scale, you can’t copyright the colour blue.
I really feel for artists losing out on precious income because of the rise of AI, but that’s the way the world goes. People will always opt to receive a similar product for a fraction of the cost and time, just like we see in the music industry with the rise of streaming and the evaporation of viable careers in music. If you squish it with legislation, another route to the same end will pop up.
New players get pointed to AA by old players – it’s really the only repository for character profiles the server community has and content is posted to there regularly. The ten most recent stories were all posted within the last 24 hours, for example.
These two posts by Acrona in a previous discussion do a very good job of elaborating on the subject.
This is why I state that I do not mind, as long as people drop that it is an image from an AI generated result by prompt.
First the automated the manual labor industries.
Then they automated the fine machinery industries.
Then they automated the precision/handcrafted industries.
Now they’ve automated the cultural industries.
The Free Market marches on.
People only started making a massive fuss when the affluent/cozy cultural industry started getting automated/less need for human work (Whether arguing “theft” or simply losing out on income due to the cost-effectiveness of going via an AI, invalidating their work).
I’m still reeling from the automation of the manual labor department. Who is next on the chopping block, I wonder.
AI art is not art.
There is no sentience, no soul to it.
It’s not made by a Human and thus not art.
I refuse to take it seriously.
I grimace every time I see AI imagery posted on AA crediting person X with no mention of AI.
To us visual artists images are what writing is to writers. Would people be as okay with players posting AI generated stories as their own, with or without mention of them being generated with prompts, maybe minorly edited?
”But everyone can write and not everyone can draw” sentiment, that I sometimes see, is wrong. Everyone can draw and everyone can write, but not everyone can draw or write well. Both skills take a lot of time, studying and practice.
But people tend to think images more acceptable to generate and post around than stories.
edit: typo, if = of
As a professional/employed writer: Yes. Yes I would be okay with it, and I am okay with it.
As a (non-professional, to be clear) writer, I´m OK with it.
my guys it’s a funny website for roleplay profiles no1 is browsing it to find real authentic art and get in touch with esteemed artists
