AI Art as character reference (And now some very unrelated conversation)

Incidentally AI ‘art’ is an advancement that in the end only favours the wealthy who can now produce their products for even less money

that movie emotionally ruined me

and that was just because of jude law’s facial expressions

no it’s closer to if someone made eight cakes, and then someone else took a slice from each cake, arranged them in the shape of a cake and went ‘look here, I made a cake, I am a baker’.

Unless courts pull something akin to making AI art not copyrightable. Which some courts in the US have already done.

Then corporations would still have to hire artists to be able to maintain their selling rights for their products.

You are completely on the wrong stand here though with this.

Technological advancement is one thing, but these ai art programs is not that. It’s a grift. It is not a human advancement.

Laws protecting against it being abused is also not draconian.

Finally, the biggest thing of all, most artists, a majority of them are not wealthy. Those that are & are immensely famous are not impacted much by AI tech as they either got enough economic stability to be able to manage, or they are dead(alot of artists got fame after their passing). Its also a very small minority of artists.

The majority of people hurt by it are people struggling to make ends meet with their hobby. The people most hurt by AI art bots are those who desperately need the protection against them.

The “Starving Artist” saying/trope is a thing for a reason. Even today.

Get your pitchforks out peasants it’s time to have an opinion on something about something and something again

The brunt of the AI models are based of a discrete model of our very own neurons. So stifling AI development would in a way be saying that we can’t work on making things in the image of brains.

Because Art like video game creation is a passion profession. And passion professions are prone to have surplus people who can do it resulting in some being stuck in the dirt while others are reaping benefits, even if they are of comparable skill.

It’s easier for you to say nothing without using words. Keep doing that instead of typing :+1:

oh no people are saying their opinions in a thread that opened by asking people for their opinions

In tech talk sure, but in actuality doubt. We’re still figuring out exactly how our neurons work so to build an ai model out of it thats meant to be functional doesn’t really work.

Actual AI development is one thing. The AI art tools/generators are a quick scam. They provide no scientific advancement whatsoever and was not created for it.

Yeah? How does that change what I said though. The people hurt by the AI generators/theft is those that need protection and who already struggle.

You claimed you were against AI regulation because it only protects the wealthy, when that is the exact opposite of the situation.

Haha the common npcs are having opinions about things haha what’s next they’ll have opinions about a current thing haha?

yeah bro it’s called having sentience

Some people struggle with this concept as proven by the post you replied to.

Precicely because it’s way too easy to make laws that are “suppose” to help the little guy, but is in reality a regulatory capture. Like current patent, copyright and dmca laws which are all being abused.

  • Patents with patent farms getting patents on concepts they have no interest in making themselves.
  • copyright with it’s insane life-span resulting in most modern culture being effectively owned by corporations
  • dmca which is frequently used to push frivolous claims to shut down competition.

Like look at lord of the rings, one of the building blocks for modern fantasy, it’s creator is dead yet a “foundation” have all the say regarding what happens to anything lotr related.

D&D had recently a massive scare as well.

They hated jesus because he told the truth.

The laws can be abused yeah, but I take that any day over having zero laws and protection. Especially since there is then additional ways to counter those who do abuse these laws.

You can still create fantasy stuff completely fine though. Lord of the Rings copyright is limited to the world Tolkien created. People can, do and have still made concepts inspired by it with no problem, otherwise we would not have 90% of our fantasy stuff today.

It’s not real a good example of how it does not work.

I’m suprised The Mouse™ wasn’t used as an example tbh.

I don’t think this is a bad thing at all.

I certainly do not want a person like steve danuser to go and ruin the setting with a spinoff of LoTR the same way he has ruined WoW’s story.

Wheel of time’s adaptation is one of the tv series of all time.
