Hey everyone,
So I’ve been thinking about an idea for a Paladin-themed side questline in The War Within that would let us unlock a red-scarlet variant of our Holy spell visuals, inspired by the lore of the Scarlet Crusade.
I imagine it as a 5-part quest chain that starts with the discovery of a forgotten crypt in Tirisfal Glades and ends with a symbolic choice to follow a “redeemed” version of the Scarlet ideology — without the fanaticism, but still all about justice, discipline, and righteous fury. Here’s how it could look:
Quest Chain: Light in the Blood
Zone: Tirisfal Glades – Desecrated Crypts (new instanced sub-zone)
1. Echoes of the Crusade
You’re sent to investigate rumors of strange red flames and undead paladins haunting the ruins near Hearthglen. You uncover whispers of a forgotten martyr: Sir Thalor the Pure.
- Collect 3 Burned Feathers from fallen Scarlet undead
- Locate the Sealed Tomb of Thalor
2. Blood on Stone
Inside the tomb, the ghost of Thalor appears, speaking of a time before the madness took hold. He challenges you to prove your intent.
- Defeat 12 Scarlet Crypt Keepers
- Cleanse 4 Blood-Stained Altars within the tomb
3. Martyr’s Judgment
A deeper section of the crypt is unlocked, where a corrupted remnant of the old Crusade lurks: Inquisitor Malor the Twisted, wielding both Holy and Shadow powers.
- Defeat Malor in a solo scenario
- Claim the Sigil of Pure Flame
4. Oath of the Spark
You return to the Scarletwood Encampment and meet Ser Adelar Viremont, leader of a new movement: The Scarlet Spark, aiming to reclaim the Crusade’s ideals with honor.
- Perform a ritual at the Flame of Revelation
- Choose whether to follow the Scarlet Light (pure but fierce version of Holy Light)
5. The Scarlet Flame
You unlock a class customization option at your class hall:
Red Holy visual effects (Judgment, Consecration, Lay on Hands, etc.)
Title: Crusader of the Spark
Transmog: Scarlet Redemption Shoulders
New emote: /oath with special animation
Would love to hear what you all think! I know the Scarlet Crusade is controversial in the lore, but I think this version—focused on personal redemption and symbolic power—could be a cool way to let players express a different “flavor” of Paladin without going full zealot.
Do you think Blizzard would ever go for something like this? And would you unlock it on your paladin?
