The title itself says it all: Is Alchemy the worst profession in SOD?
It’s a very simple and legitimate question because, just by looking at the auction, you realize that any potion, elixir, or transmute is always crafted at a loss; that is, the materials themselves are more expensive than the actual crafting.
So my question is, why do people continue crafting when they can make more money with the materials?
Something very different happens with other professions, where materials are vastly cheaper than crafting and are therefore highly profitable.
Should I reroll my profession? Or am I doing things wrong? Is there any type of crafting in Alchemy that doesn’t entail financial losses simply because it’s crafting?
Alchemy has a quest that allows you to get procs on all your crafts (you can check on wowhead - 1 quest for potions/elixirs including flasks, and 1 for transmutes such as arcanite, you can complete both). You get always AT LEAST 2 potions per craft if you have this quest completed, and also have a small (around 10%) chance to get 3-4 potions
that applies to flask crafting too btw.
if you get extremely lucky, 1 black lotus can yield up to 25 flasks.
lets say you craft a titan flask and get that fat 5x proc.
now you got 5 titans flasks you can use to make old gods flasks, and lets say you hit the lottery and the stars align, and you get 5x procs on every one of those 5 crafts, now you got 25 old gods flasks.
that is money printing.
we’re getting an easy-to-access alchemy lab next phase, but until then my advice is; send all your consumes/boons/etc. to an alt, bank all your gear, fill your inventory with flask materials and go craft in bulk.
You’re not usually losing gold, but it has its problems.
An accessible alchemy lab is nice, but flask margins are now very low
We basically got no update since AQ, aside from this discolored healing potion which seems like a patch to me when they realised they forgot about alchemy.
