I started up WoW retail this morning and noticed that I got the cinematic trailer of BfA and that my sound was way higher than before. When I logged in the game I noticed all my addons and UI had been reset and all my weak aura’s are gone.
How can this happen? How do I get it back?
I did NOT make any backups.
I also noticed the battlenet client started updating wow retail.
I really can’t put my mind in trying to find all the weak aura’s I had and setting up my entire UI again…
Also my macro’s are gone and all standard ingame settings like “name above head” have been reset…
Did you check the addon folder if the files are still there? I’d check the addons folder for PTR, Classic etc. as well, just in case.
Did you install WoW under “Program Files”? If the game was installed under program files check “VirtualStore” for the files. It is located under C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore. AppData is a hidden folder.
I don’t know why the settings reset like that (it has never happened to me) and I don’t if there is any reliable way to restore removed files if the files are entirely gone. There are programs which can restore files but they work best if the drive has not been used after the file were removed.
In the future I strongly recommend making backups of your UI/settings every now and then. And any other important files for that matter.
All the addons are still there.
On classic I don’t have any problems. It’s just the retail version that has reset everything.
I did check on the virtualstore. Nothing is there. Only dropbox
Hello!
Sorry to hear you ran into issues. Addons are a thing that are solely located on your hard drive, and are made by players like yourself. We’re unable to assist with addons since they aren’t made by us, but if your addons suddenly vanished they might simply be turned off.
Launch the game. On the character select screen, press the addons button (down the bottom near the right hand side)
Most likely your addons are greyed out due to being out of date. You can load out of date addons (not recommended) or update your addons.
