Finding mates who were willing to spam games, discuss strategy and mistakes.
That’s literally all it takes: be willing to improve, and spam games. It really helps if you like the people you play with, it turns sessions of sweating in 3s into hanging out with the bros.

I always love the fact that most common tip is “spam games” which makes sense. Yet if you stand there at x-rating with 500 games played you’re target for “noob, hardstuck, l2p” harassment aswell. Oh the community

good teammates are so so important, the biggest problem is to find people who have the same mindset like u. Some people at low rating just want to chill and queue and don’t even care about rating at all, even when they have the same rating as you. Avoid these people. Try to find people who are on the same level (maybe even better) than you. People who are willing to push!

True, but let’s say you are 1500 and you spam 20k games during a season and become the next Whaazz on your journey, ppl are gonna be like “ye ofc that guy is that good, look how many games he played…”, but then next season you already on that level, so then it should not take you another 20k games to play at those ratings again.

It’s just whenever ppl play a ton but don’t improve, that’s when ppl make fun of it the most, like someone who played 3000 rounds of shuffle but he’s still below 1500cr etc.

Generally I don’t think everyone has what it takes to play at the highest of high levels because of learning curves. Some ppl are just more gifted and they gonna pick the game up faster, but obviously everybody can improve, it’s just that Jimmy will be 2600 after X hours, while Kevin may be stuck 1900 after the same amount of time.

Learning WoW PvP is very difficult though. A lot of time and practice is generally needed. Play a lot, but don’t just play, push yourself to become better, analyze your mistakes, never ever put blame on your teammates, even if it’s obvious they f’d up because you can’t influence their gameplay (unless you playing with your team and you practicing together), but rather focus on if there is anything you could have done differently to prevent that whole situation from going down like that, or compensate for your teammates failures.

Also massive, controversial advice: Learn to use addons/WAs, regard it as a skill and develope it. You will have a massive advantage in awareness over 99% of the playerbase, if you take that skill to the next level.

Spam play. Have standards. Don’t let people call you ‘toxic’ for having a competitive mindset and wanting to win. Don’t sit around waiting for people who aren’t driven the same way you are. Question every loss. How did you lose? Why did you lose? What could you have done instead? What could your teammates have done instead? If you get to X rating and then tank a lot, don’t use that as a reason to give up, tell yourself you’ve got there before, you will get there again and go beyond that. Be selfish. Ask questions to people on your spec that are where you want to be. You can just go sit in Elwynn, Durotar or Valdrakken and you’ll be bound to see somebody you can learn from.

Important: don’t copy the addon settings like WA’s and omnibars of streamers. Tailor your own. What’s important for you to track might not be important for them to track and vice versa, etc.

Game is miserable till you have mates to play with. First answer were good hence. Shuffle is miserable, lfg is miserable. Not many care play something they dont feel fun even if they could push. Once they find mates they push cause playing becomes this hanging out with the mates and bonding over video games.

Level up as many specs as can, so you know what skills to be aware of and know your enemy.
Then just practice, practice.

Very detailed and long read below, take your time to read it if you want a very detailed answer. Basically a step by step.

#1. Play a team comp that is good for your spec. Most classes have multiple options.

Try out a few different good comps for your class in the season, and figure out what you prefer playing the most. If you are not sure what your best team comp is:

  • Check YouTube
  • Ask streamers
  • Ask here (I’ll be happy to tell you  ,just say what your spec is)

#2. If your spec is considered very weak in the season you’re playing in, the odds are people won’t want to play with you (especially if searching new teammates). If your spec is not good with any meta comp, look for niche comps that are viable (example Frost Death Knight, which is currently C Tier as a DPS, however people playing Draco Cleave which is DK / Devastation / Mistweaver are pushing Glads and R1 with it)

3#. If your spec is not good in the current meta and you are unable to find any niche comp, try to play a different spec of your own class, or a different class. Sometimes it’s just like that, although in Dragonflight there’s usually only a few specs which nobody wants to play with in 3v3, this season those are probably Enhancement Shaman and Disc priest

4#. Ok, your class and spec are good or at least playable in the meta, now what?

Well now you try to play every day, or as many days as you can, make another 1-2 alt characters of the same spec, send them boxes, practice as much as possible.

In case you are finding yourself struggling to push rating, consider watching YouTube guides, or streamers playing your class, ask them questions, or simply look at what they are doing and try to do the same in order to improve.

Make sure you learn everything there is to learn about your spec knowledge wise first, then spam games to practice.

5#. Ok, you are consistently playing your class good now, so how do you find teammates?

Well, there is no easy answer. Usually it’s just LFG if you don’t already have people in your friends list. If you can’t find groups with comps for your spec, make your own group. Invite people of similar experience and CR. Be polite, give suggestions (sentences like “maybe we can try to do this, or try to do that”), if possible, try to go on voice with the people in case they are willing to.

6#. Ok, you managed to learn your class well, find your best and most comfortable class, and now have teammates, but now you guys are stuck at a rating and not going up. Do the following to fix that and start pushing:

  • Make sure you’re playing the best VERSION of your comp. Many comps have different versions. For example, Ret Warrior can work with Resto Shaman, this is a 100% viable Glad push comp, however it is easier with a Fistweaver. Rogue Mage can work with a Disc priest, but it’s easier with a Holy priest.

  • Record your games, and rewatch them back to figure out what’s going wrong. Always understand why you lost, if you lost. If it is consistently 1 person messing up, try to tell them in a polite way what to fix. If you queue again and the same problems continue, consider replacing the person. Some players peak at ratings below Gladiator and the sad reality is they are keeping your team back from pushing, usually because of ego and unwilling to improve.

  • Be self critical. Your team might make mistakes, but you will too. Understand your mistakes. Focus on self improvement. The better you become, the more easy it will become for you. Friends and teammates come and go, but your odds become much higher if you’re good at what you do.

#7. Understand matchups for your team comp - what is good against your comp and what is easy against your comp and:

  • What enemy comps are trying to do
  • Who will be the kill target on your team for most of the game (or the entire game) and what you can do to prevent that
  • Understanding who YOUR team is supposed to be hitting
  • Understanding that YOUR team MUST switch targets when necessary and situationally to win (zugzugging 1 target all game only works if you’re a pure setup comp like RMP or a pure zugzug comp like Ret Warrior)
  • If you’re a healer, talk to your teammates how to trade CDs in different situations. If you are not on voice, say it in general before games start, although it is unlikely for most people to get Gladiator without any voice games, unless they have very high previous experience
  • If you’re a DPS, talk about strategies, be vocal, but don’t overthink things. Most of the game now is about trading defensives, doing a lot of damage and capitalizing on the enemy’s bad positioning / no trinkets / no cds

And that’s about it. I know it sounds like a university degree, and sometimes it feels like it.

Hope this was helpful

I was pretty close hitting an elite on my shaman but i would say, if i have any right to say anything tho. Think about what went wrong, how did you position, what made you win the game and record your games. It helps so much to improve. That worked for me to get even that close to my goal.

The fact is that it is almost impossible to get rank 1 or even glad nowdays if u dont already have good mates that u have played several seasons. Very hard to find team to play in 3s.

Watching good streamers to learn and copy their playstyle → fix my UI/keybinds (somewhat), get the necessary addons → find a fun class → profit

That’s what I did. Spamming games works to an extent but you’ll likely not improve if you don’t know what top players are doing differently than you

i watched allot of yanuxtv and it feels like my playstyle is even worse now

You must’ve been doing something wrong then because everyone knows that yanux is the best player to have ever touched this game

best tip i can give you is to not waste time playing holy paladin and reroll something that has to press 3 buttons to win, easiest r1 of your life, DF pvp is so incredibly bad that i’m hardstuck 2.4 as a spec i played for over 10 years but i respec ret and get r1 without ever playing a dps so just play fotm and it doesn’t matter what you do, just follow some icyveins rotation guide

the majority of r1s who started the game at legion pay for coaching or buy an account to have “an xp”
The best examples are Cervantes (cata glad account to buy), Jangles (coaching) and they are probably the best dk in the game
I have plenty of other examples of players

R1 players just have too much ego and are too jealous to steal their place

Thank you all for your answers, I have been on forum vacation so unable to reply.

I was playing with random classes, but have found some more success in shoe boxing my friend into playing assassination rogue (I’m playing disc) a bit late in the season to push much further but looking forward to starting new season and hopefully doing better.

Comps we are struggling on are Resto Druid and Surv and Resto Sham and Arms , if anyone can share strategy for playing vs these that would be appreciated.

My friend is quite new to assassination so any suggestions on the spec would be helpful. and ofc tips on Disc are welcome as well.

tunnel healers, win in 3 kidneys
press garrote
2.7 cr achieved

and u as a disc need to…

do dmg

If you dont have stable people to play with regularly is just not worth the time and hassle. You sit in deserted LFG for hours and even if you find someone the chances are you will face coordinated teams.
