Now we know Midnight is going to go to Quel’thalas home of the High elven Blood Elves who I expect it to predominantly be about - but it is also the home for the exiled and homeless high elves and void elves who are all in turn descendants of Highborne Night elves. And so, everyone is involved.
We find both Night elves and Void elves homeless in wow, without cities or capital or lands (except the small patch of Telogrus Rift and Amirdrassil), I’d say it’s a pretty rough treatment - compare to the zones and assets - forests and cities of the Blood elves and Nightborne - but who’s jealous right? Night elves we know have bene thoroughly abused, but they’ve got a tree back after 10,000 years of knocks and having their best in game racial asset of city, Suramar go horde.
But Amirdrassil is beautiful but it’s far away from any of their lands in the broken isles or Kalimdor, and so many issues still unresolved. Still no capital city, no empowerments - village people syndrome.
Sorry, but the void elves are in an even worse predicament currently, they are the only race in the entire game that has no zone or major patch based around them. Released near like an after thought in legion for the night elf sub-race going horde, they’ve had little to no development. While they did show up in some events… no zone or patch or planet holds them, and like the night elves, they wonder around…
Question is… what would or should Midnight hold for these Elves? What would you like to see?
Void Elves
Personally, I’d like to see void elves play a major role. Although it is the Blood elf expansion, the blood elf sub race should play as big a role in it as the night elf sub-race, the Nightborne played in legion. yes, the Nightborne were the crowning centre of the night elf expansion, visiting the ancient home of the alliance night elves -where Tyrande, Jarod, Maiev, Illidan and Malfurion all come form and the majority of the resistance army that won against Azshara, but that didn’t stop them been taking to the horde. Fine, we got void elves.
But will void elves be the centre of attention in a similar way in Midnight? . Could it be that void elves get the Nightborne treatment, but it just happened 4 expansions later? That would be cool. Like to see the void elves perhaps in a nice new home and basically having 1 raid, 3 instances and really cool stuff we do with them to help win the day.
Night Elves:
Any role for night elves? I’d like to see that too, the blood elves did show up in the night elf expansion, to help the Night elf sub-race the Nightborne, and they were portrayed very competently, and gloriously too, fitting their l ore. A strong show hat highlighted and begun a deep friendship.
Question is will we see a similar thing from the Night elves? Quel’thalas is Highborne/Moonguard and Moon Priestess area of expertise - . The lore has given us a healthy night elf revitalised Highborne caste and restored the Moonguard.
They’re all about arcane magic, These are the parts of the Night elves heavy into arcane and night elf civilization and lore wise they are actually the best at it - and we haven’t seen much of it on the side of and from the night elves in a while… certianly nothing like the scale we had in the books. The most knowledgeable of all the elves are the Shen’dralar Highborne, having been the ones that processed the Queen’s top projects, dark ones as well as highly important ones, the ones she wanted to pass off as her very won to wow he populace, they were also the keeper of the knowledge of the kaldorei civilization. These guys did immediately after the sundering what Darth’remar took 3,000 years to figure out, how to use the arcane in secret, hidden from the twisting nether and prying eyes, they were able to summon and trap an arcane powered demon to supply their energy, all without drawing the Legion back or being detected by the dragons and druids in the north.
They are said to be the most revered arcanists of the realm.
And the Moonguard are Warcraft’s most legendary and elite mage fighting group, their victories include the conquest of Kalimdor and the defeat of the first invasion of the legion, which Black rook hold Illidan flashbacks shows you (from Legion expansion) as well as The War of the Ancients trilogy, that they were the main force of the kaldorei resistnace, supplemnted by the priesthood and led by Ravencrest, initially under Illidan’s command, until he went Demon Hunter.
In Legion expansion, we see them powerfully nearly take out a vast host of Nightborne many times their numbered juiced up by a then active Nightwell, these are not like the blood leves in 7.1, gingerly using speicalistknowledge to exploit arrogant Nightborne, knowing fully well they were outmatched and outpowered, no, these guys took on the Nightborne and 100s fell for every Moonguard, that is some phenomenal fighting.
Pro-Alliance Elven Roles
So shouldn’t Night elven Highborne and Moonguard types, along with caster Moon Priestesses and Illidari Night elves be the night elven representation on the alliance side alongside the void elves? Helping the void elves, like the Blood elves helped the Nightborne, and for once, actually been showed to be as good as the lore writes them to be. No more petty displays to puff up the horde races.
The horde races don’t need more puffing up at the expense of night elves or void elves… we got TBC to BFA puffing up the horde races, or do you not all remember cata and Ashenvale/Azshara zones and night elf humiliation?
Let the night elves who’ve gained a world tree, still have the Well of Eternity and Moonwells and Elune actually shows us they are powerful for a change, like the lore writes them.
Let the alliance elves have a strong showing.
