In fullscreen mode in random time when I need to switch windows the whole windows system freeses on wow screen (see cursor). I can hear music playing in other applications or youtube video sound in chrome browser but cannot do anything, cannot switch to any window, cannot CTRL + ALD + DEL, etc.
Searching forums I found:
1)WOW Addons updating. - didnt help. I also deleted all of them and now have no addons at all. Still an issue.
2) Change DirectX12 to DirectX11 - didnt help.
3) Full client reinstall.- didnt help.
4) Video card driver updating - didnt help.
There was no such issue in 8.3.
Any one can help?
Windows 10, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, Intel Core i7-7700k 4.20GHz
have same issue since prepatch.
I can see people on the US forum complaining about the same weird issue
tried update my driver (uninstall with DDU)/ install old one - didnt fix.
repair wow - didnt fix
disable igpu -didnt fix
I’ll try directx 11 legacy, but i dont have any problem with other game. I guess we’ll have to wait for shadowland and hope that it is fixed
Edit : I just thought that there is a pci express power management option in windows, by default it is in automatic, I’ll put it in off
Thats NOT a yardstick by which to judge things. Thats like saying “Why do onions burn, I don’t have problems with apples.”
So here is a deal. I updated my windows to last version and it worked( as far as I can see - 5 hours without freezes). Maybe this will help someone.
Thanks for the update with the solution you found, Sovrog!
For anyone else having similar issues, a great start would be the support article over here:
Same issue. I also have Intel Core i7-7700k. Wasn’t an issue back in Legion/BFA.
The windows update didn’t work for me, I freeze randomly when I alt+tab even after updating windows and everything else u mentioned.
The only solution I found is playing in windowed mood. Ever since I switched to windowed, no more freezes, which is not a fix.
I also tried every step in the article, nothing worked.
Blizz fix ur game.
You say “Fix your game”, to a thread where the OP actually found that the problem was his PC, and outdated Windows version.
Logic, you haz it.
Also this thread is 4 months old.
Necros, you haz them.
