Am I going to be hated if I don't RP?

To a mod: Please delete this, it has derailed way too far.

If you’re respectful and have no intention of disrupting RP, I’d say absolutely go ahead. Seeing people around may give you the motivation/confidence to dip your toes into the hobby too – which is always a big plus, for both you and for the community.

But even if not, I don’t see an issue; if you don’t cause issues for anyone else, nobody is going to bat an eye about what you get up to.

you’ll be fine! my chief suggestion would be to just install the TRP3 addon so you can see people’s profiles and full character names, and don’t stress if you don’t feel like you can RP with other folks - you’re not obliged to provide people with RP, and RPing by yourself is perfectly fine and it’s something an RP server would be best suited for :>

Thank you, friends! The thing is, I’d normally just go ahead and create my characters, but reading a couple of (huge) threads where people keep saying that people who don’t RP should just leave kinda spooked me. It really is reminiscent of the elitism & toxicity I sometimes faced on normal servers from time to time.

Perhaps they have their reasons and bad experiences, it’s just that personally I can’t see why these people act they way they do when someone around their vicinity minds their own business and doesn’t RP and/or talks ‘out of character’. I get that, ideally, they would like for everyone to be that way, but that’s simply unrealistic, unless Blizzard starts enforcing certain things other than naming. That kind of hostile behaviour achieves nothing, but that’s just me, I’d like to hear other people’s takes.

I’ll hold off from creating my characters, I would really like to hear more takes on this. I have had a terrible year (didn’t we all to some degree?) and more stress is the last thing I need.

This is a knee-jerk reaction to the very same toxic, and often elitist people who come to AD to ridicule and disrupt roleplay because they cannot understand that people might enjoy the game in a different way to them.

You’re very welcome here, everyone is. Just don’t be juvenile. I hope seeing people Roleplay will encourage you to give it a try

That makes sense, toxicity breeds toxicity. It’s a sad and vicious cycle. If only people would be more understanding towards one another… yeah… and in an ideal world we wouldn’t have to die. Unrealistic to expect that. :frowning:

I probably won’t RP, but you never know! Reading these forums I can already tell that there’s a lot of mature players around, which makes me smile.

There’s a large amount of people who care little for roleplayers and disrupt them for funs. Also a large chunk of players are here solely because of AH prices, or because there is no zone sharding.

I still say you should try RP. You’ve made a thread here, spoken to some of the community - that is already a bright step many are too afraid to take. Try and look around, see whether there’s a guild you like. It’ll be an awesome journey.

I don’t RP either, or not really. I have the addon and I’m on an RP server, but mostly because it’s quiet outside the cities and I can do my lore research in peace.

Although if I sit in OG or SW and someone starts talking to me, I don’t mind.

On my Draenei paladin I was looking at transmogs and a dwarf started telling me a story how he got scammed to go on an adventure with a prize and he got nothing  it was a cute encounter

thats the most important part and the fact that you even do this post shows a lot of how much you care about it. I say try it out here and maybe sooner or later you will start to enjoy rp yourself, and if not you still might got the chance of seeing some cool things that happened through the community

Don’t worry those people bullying non RPers are a dying breed.

called: RPers

Honestly don’t get why anyone who doesn’t RP would go on an RP realm, unless other realms are just straight up like a stereotypical session of League of Legends 24/7 the community really isn’t particularly nice or otherwise

If you have no intention of ruining the fun of RPers I’d say go for it, AD has a lovely community and the only reason OOC players on RP servers are such a hotly debated topic is because we’ve had times in the past where some go out of their way to break RP immersion. To minimize disruption you could even download TRP and make your characters some profiles, then people won’t even be able to tell you apart from any other RPer doing content. I’d definitely give RP a try after watching it for a while, it’s great fun!

Feel free to come and join us.

The first time I joined an RP Server, I did not Role play myself but was curious about it, and a little skeptical. As people above mentioned, I did install TRP3 just to spy on people and understand why they would suddenly stop in the middle of Lion’s Rest and start yelling. But I kept doing other contents, until I felt ready to jump in as well.

Usually, I feel like Role Players are nicer than non role players when it comes to the game. And if you want to to focus on other content, you’ll notice Oribos has plenty of non role players just enjoying the game.

Just because you don’t want to role play should never prevent you from joining any server. You’re playing the game just like all of us, and you’re free. Don’t let people tell you what you should and should not do.

I’s disappointing to see theres only post in here with any common sense. The reason the community exists in the first place is because of - you guessed it - roleplayers making an effort to contribute. That’s the only reason we have a unique community that’s lasted since 2005. You know one of the few communities that actually still exists in this shell of a game! Go look at the other server forums they’re as dead as the dodo for a reason.

If you aren’t making an effort to contribute to the communities roleplay then why are you here? You care about it enough to want to come here but not enough to make an effort to help maintain it?

Imo, role players are actually nicer and more helpful, and help the game feel more immersive. And… What if they’re just curious about role play or enjoy being around without participating ?

It’s not as if everyone we can see in Stormwind actually get involved in role play. Sometimes, they just hang around in Lion’s Rest, watching people do their thing and literally never interact with anyone. It’s their right to do so, and it helps make the city feel more alive.

If people want to watch and enjoy role play without interfering, why wouldn’t you let them do so ?

In sort of ways, they’re contributing and, I’m sorry to say so, but they are way much more contributing to the server than all these characters who beat a titan once and wield a sword crafted by the runecarver and were chosen by C’thun to become its herald.

Being shy in real life can apply to being shy in role play. And, as most suggested earlier, Velour can also create a small TRP profile and say they are shy IC too. This way, it doesn’t ruin immersion neither for us, neither for them.

you’re more than welcome on our realm.

sadly you’re right there’s a veryyyy small, yet veryyy vocal minority who attacks anyone who doesnt RP 12 hours a day. I had it happen to me too when I was comming to Argent Dawn.

most of them do it on forums, and they have discord where they plan on who to attack etc. feels like they pay the sub so they can spam forums and argue and attack people really. I’d say they might visit this thread in a bit too, dont be scared, you can hold my hand.

on a bright side 95% of people on this realm are very friendly for the most part, regardless if you RP or not. and best thing is, those who’ll woof on forums, you wont meet those in game like ever pretty much, 99% of argent dawn doesnt even use forums, even less so realm sub-forum as its filled with toxic gang who mass report and scare anyone they dont like. its truly sad but it doesnt represent the community.

And what a shame that is.
I don’t particularly like my hobby being something people just swing by to gawk at like a zoo animal.

They really aren’t. I’ll take a bad RPer over a non RPer any day of the week, at least one of them joined an RP server for the right reason.

Sorry, didn’t know every time I watched a movie or a drama play, they were actually zoo animals.

Wanting to be part of a community while knowing you’re shy and interactions will be hard is a right reason. At least they made the first step, maybe they will change their mind, maybe not. It’s their choice.

Sadly unlike actors I do not get paid for my performance

Much like it is my choice to not want people who don’t RP on an RP server. Yes, I am familiar with free will.

Luckily however the OP has stated that they do RP hence me not making an appearance here until people started making much broader, sweeping statements.
