Is this a rare or valuable mount? How is the value of a rare mount determined?
The less amount of people that have it the more rare it is.
It’s rare these days as its not obtainable anymore.
The drop rate and or the difficulty of obtaining the mount usually determines the value of a mount. You can check most of the stuff out on wowhead.
WoW head usually displays a percentage of players who have a mount. The battle bear is owned by 59% of accounts and the war bear is owned by 2% according to this. I thought more would have owned that.
It has dropped twice for me and once recently, its still obtainable.
You’re thinking of the Battle bear as that was a slightly upgraded texture version of the Warbear, The Warbear is definitely not obtainable anymore.
Yea, must have mixed them up
Back in the days when Zul Aman was still a 10man raid (and a not realy easy one actually) you had to beat quite a steep timer to get one Bear to drop - so it took 10 Weeks for the team to get one each. It got removed when player power increased as it made the timer trivial.
I’ve got this , amani battle bear drops from zul’aman .
Not just unobtainable. But it when it was live, it was hidden behind a Timed Challenge in a 10 Man raid, with only 1 per raid. Since this was a time when most people played 1 or 2 characters, it was unlikely you were farming this.
So the chances of you actually getting it was a lot slimmer. However guilds were a lot more close nit in those days, and raiding was more scheduled and organised.
It was then removed at the end of the Expansion, because Blizzard wanted to keep it as a reward for those who completed the Time Trial as it was intended. However, later Blizzard replaced it with a recoloured version.
Once content was cleared and everyone was suitably geared, guilds would move onto the next Raid, rather than keep farming the only ones.
Like the value of anything, it is determined by what people think its value is. Convince the entire playerbase that it’s an ugly outdated mount and just pixels in the game so it’s not worth getting even if it was still available and see how its “value” drops.
That’s it. I see that Ugly mount and think, that player achieved something cool in the past.
but if every player had it, it would really mean nothing to see it. just like it means nothing to see the purple recolour.
It’s just like seeing Thunderfury transmogged on players. It used to be cool to see Thunderfury, back in the day. Now it’s just another ugly overused Transmog option.
WoW Classic - Zul’Aman - Amani War Bear (I assume it’s in Classic)
Retail - Zul’Aman - Amani Battle Bear
Neither will be that rare any more
Ok thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I actually have this mount but I got it from a tanking satchel back in Cataclysm, so I was curious about it. I’m happy I have it now. But I do worry about it’s value and it being wasted on me.
I was thinking like, what happens to our wow accounts after we die, I don’t think there’s any way for us to leave it to someone like Facebook has a feature like that.
I am part of the playerbase that is aging and surely there must be a lot of us getting up there in the years and I could foresee a large part of the wow community passing on etc. in the next 5-10 years
I’m sorry it probably sounds really weird, but I don’t know how to properly phrase it.
Well this became morbid quickly didn’t it!
I would be lying if I said it didn’t cross my mind once. Just out of curiosity
“What will happen to all my online accounts if I dropped dead tomorrow”
I just accepted that it was my choice to invest time in WoW
and that my progress would all be lost in the Twisting Nether.
However, there are 2 solutions to this - and probably more:
-
How to transfer a Game between a Parent and a Child:
https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/2622 -
Paid account transfers
(I’m pretty sure it is against ToS to share password and account under your name.)
Chin up - I am sure you are not that old
Unfortunately, we don’t own our WoW accounts or the drops we have collected. And Blizzard tends to quickly close down accounts that change hands (see the Rogue who sold his account after getting World First Warglaives). So FIAT value is zero.
I have that as well. I forgot all about it TBH.
Aha, thank you for this. I was not aware of the parent - child transfer. I actually have a young daughter, if she does one day want to play wow, I’d be honoured to pass the torch.
Sorry didn’t mean to come across as morbid. And glad that I’m not the only one who thought of this lol. I’ve seen accounts here with 20k + achievement points, those accounts must be really valuable with thousands of hours put into them.
