An age old question about the Fear spell

The Fear effect is of course as old as the game.

But there is one question that I keep making when I or something else is affected by this effect:

Is it intentionally programmed that the target affected by it (player or NPC) will almost always run right towards a pack of unengaged enemy NPCs?

AND it lets players and mobs alike ignore the phyiscal boundaries of existence (running trough terrain) too!
As far as I know they are simply running directly away from the caster and just simply Murphy’s Law, they bump into an other pack.
Priest and Warlock both received talents that change this(feared enemies will just stand where they are instead of running away), dunno about Warrior.

Id say this is a good mechanic. Keeps you on your toes, spices things up a bit xD

If a kid gets a fright they’d normally run to mommy or daddy for protection, don’t see why baddies can’t do that too.

Yeah it makes sense in terms of the NPCs running to the NPCs
Buy why am we also running towards them XD

Perhaps Fear is also creating a hallucination about who is our enemy?
