An Open Letter to the MoP Classic PvP Community and Blizzard

I’d like to draw attention from everyone who cares about PvP in Mists of Pandaria Classic, in hopes of gaining more traction so Blizzard hears this message.

Before I begin, I want to clarify that I understand this is still a Beta and everything is subject to change. However, it could just as easily change for the worse — and that’s what I’m concerned about.

Let’s start with something important: the upcoming patch is labeled 5.5, which clearly positions it as a direct successor to 5.4.8. This trend of continuing from the final patch of each expansion has been consistent with previous Classic releases, and I sincerely hope it stays the same with MoP Classic.

Now, to the core message of this post:

Today I noticed deeply concerning changes regarding PvP Resilience and Battle Fatigue (the PvP healing reduction). These changes suggest Blizzard may be heading down one of two problematic paths:

  1. Trying to recreate the broken experience of PvP Season 12.
  2. Trying to “fix” Season 12 by tweaking numbers (Resilience and Battle Fatigue), turning it into something similar to Season 15, rather than just starting with the already balanced state of Season 15.

Why this is a serious problem:

  1. Currently, BG gear only provides around 27% Resilience, which results in massive, absurd damage output. To explain this with an analogy: in Cataclysm, PvE gear in PvP allows some classes to literally win 1v1 fights in 3 seconds of CC without any strong procs or major cooldowns. That completely kills any form of real PvP gameplay.
Now, with only 27% Resilience in MoP BG gear, everyone — and I mean everyone — can do this kind of burst damage. And when Arena gear is added on top of this? Things will get even worse. Not to mention PvE gear hasn’t been addressed either.
  2. Season 15 of MoP back in 2014 (patch 5.4.8) already fixed the broken state of Seasons 12 and 13 (patches 5.0, 5.1). We don’t need to go backward to a broken state just to “tune it up” again.
The fix already exists — just start from the balanced version that was already tested and enjoyed by the community.

My vision (shared by much of the MoP PvP community):

  1. Set baseline PvP Resilience to 77%, and keep Battle Fatigue at 60% — just like it was in 5.4.8.
  2. Scale current Season 12 BG gear (and eventually Season 13 gear) to 522 item level, and Arena gear to 550 item level in BGs and Arena — until we officially transition into Season 15.
  3. PvE gear should no longer be dominant or viable in PvP, just like it was in 5.4.8.

This approach reinforces the earlier point — that the current patch being labeled 5.5 means it’s a direct continuation of 5.4.8, not a reboot of 5.0. It also makes testing and balancing easier, since we already know what worked.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this.

aslong as there is no pve ger in arena im happy. dont remeber pve ger beeing viable in original mop? thought they added scaling down of pve ger in pvp or that pvp ger scaled up in pvp combat.

It was like that back in Seasons 14 and 15 (2013–2014), and I really hope we’ll get something similar this time
No one really knows what Blizzard is planning — and sadly, they’re not sharing any updates or direction with us. :frowning:

They added a base Resilience value last night, and now I have around 60–64% in full BG gear. That leads me to believe they’ve chosen the second path:

Trying to “fix” Season 12 by tweaking numbers (Resilience and Battle Fatigue), turning it into something similar to Season 15 — instead of just starting from the already balanced state of Season 15.

At this point, all we can really do is watch and hope things go in the right direction.

blizzard please if you are listening I would personally love the game exactly the way it was with no changes, there’s so many things you can do and so many places to explore, pvp will never be dry because in mists there is no set in stone comp that always wins. lets have so much fun finding things and ignore the pro gamers for this expansion please just one expansion for fun
