Anniversary realms : Lets actively discourage toxicity/degeneracy ... lets bring back that old school community

Theres nothing worse than joining a realm only to find its full of toxicity, selfishness and all round degeneracy, it really drags away from the atmosphere of classic.

We have been given fresh realms, can we all agree to make the anniversary realms a great place to game ?

Most of us play classic to get away from retail, i think its uber important that we cultivate that old skool community feel that has been missing from wow.

HC has brought it back, theres no reason we can’t either.

Lets be better this time round.

sadly you are talking to the forum members. those people don´t hang here like us.

If you want to get away from retail, why do you post on the Retail general forum then ?

If that “community” was lost according to you in Retail, and you did not get it back with Classic relaunch…

What makes you think this time it will be different ? Remember: People make communities. Not the game. Different servers, same people, expect the same results.

Most people here do not.
Wrong forum I’m afraid.

If they ever update Classic’s graphics and put in a metric ton of QoL changes and make the game have endgame activities other than ‘grind or raid’, then I’ll be sure to try it out.

I just described retail, didn’t I? :upside_down_face:

i already played through classic (or as some of us call it the original game) twice now, why on earth would i do it a third time. I honestly dont understand this release

going to degenerate even harder this time!

lvl 10 low posts alt, inflammatory thread. Is it headstart for weekend :dracthyr_a1:

I don’t know what to tell you.
It won’t happen. Toxicity is the product of the envyronment people get put under.
If you don’t change the variables, expecting a different result is what far cry considers the definition of insanity.

There is easy access to information now. That will not change. Blizzard fosters a competitive environment. That will not change. Monitoring of the community with gamemasters will not return. That will not change.

You think posting here in the forums where you reach 0.1% of the playerbase will change behaviours? It won’t.
You can’t change people. You can change the variables they are under. But, Blizzard has no intention of doing that.

the road to maximum efficiency is what creates and supports toxicity. when every minute in game is spent doing what gives you the best outcome, you become quickly intolerant to whoever is slow, new or behind.

It is not just that.
Many people will only act nicely to others because they are concerned about being shunned by their local community.
At some point the small closed server communities were replaced with a much larger region community where you might never see the same person ever again ingame.
This results both in many people having fewer social inhibitions when something bothers them as well as seeing their gameplay experience as something more akin to a machine and their fellow players outside their social circles as just small cogs in the machine that can be replaced by other cogs at their convinience.

All tens of us. It is even said that on weekends and holydays we can even reach triple digits.

In my experience this happens when the content is easy and the goalpost moves from completing it to farming it as fast as possible.
I’m sure many will disagree but imo the “gogogo” mentality peaked when spammable content became near trivial. For example in +10s people are going fast, but it doesn’t feel like the idiotic rush I sometimes saw in low keys, which caused a bit of toxicity.

The problem is no amount of new servers will bring this back, the people you are seeking have either long stopped playing, or are playing in little pockets of the game with no chance of you seeing them.

New tech doesn’t change the personality of the playerbase.

It’s not gonna be found on Classic fresh because Classic fresh presents itself as seasonal instead of continuous, and so you get all the usual seasonal busy people with no time to smell the roses.

The community you seek is on Era or can be found through different means.

There is a way to have less toxicity in game.
Join a community. This will have some form of moderatin and toxic players will be kicked out of the community.

I do think communities could be bigger, 1000 is a bit limited especially as it is characters not bnets.
Although with Discords etc there are other ways of doing it.

The only way to keep toxicity to an acceptable level is have some form of moderation. Blizz won’t / can’t moderate the game either due to funding or sheer scale of the issue.
