So, for the longest time I can remember since Dragonflight came out, I’ve been getting driver crashes sometimes full system crashes that ends up corrupting my AMD driver.
It seems to happen in certain areas around retail and I’m thinking it might be the engine because on Wotlk classic, it started happening as well when phase 3 dropped, which introduced the dragonflight engine. I’m on a 7900 XTX, and it’s happening to all my friends on AMD GPUs as well. Driver version doesn’t matter, happens no matter the version.
One thing that does fix it on wotlk classic at least is enabling raytracing on DX12. I tried the same on retail to no avail. Can Blizzard PLEASE look into this? It’s the reason I quit after raszageth, and sad to see it still happening. Please don’t tell me to test without Discord, overwolf etc open because it still happened on a fresh windows installation…
Getting AMD driver timeouts in Classic WoW with the 7800XT. Screen freezes for 5-10 seconds, then both displays turn black, and when the system recovers, game is still running, but Discord has crashed and the AMD bug reporting tool pops up with an error message. Only happening in WoW, no other game… I have already rolled back my drivers from 23.9.3 to 23.9.1, but still happening.
While this isn’t helpful, I can report that I haven’t had any issues with RX6600 in DF ever since I bought it last year. Currently using drivers 23.8.1 so bit older ones than the on es you tried (“don’t try to fix what isn’t broken”).
Sadly, it has been happening on that version as well. It’s been happening for over a year in DF for my friends and I. It didn’t happen in Shadowlands at all, same GPU. Even a year old driver it still happens on And as I said, it also happens in wotlk classic, ever since phase 3 launched, which introduced the dragonflight engine.
I do not remember anymore when game did not have an issue, Blizzard are especially ignorant on this issue that has existed since few months before dragonflight launch possibly longer.
You can fix hardware issues, but a user cannot fix a software issue you are at the mercy of developers fixing their game, or driver devs fixing their driver.
Neither is happening, both are pointing fingers at each other and doing nothing to fix it.
And then this is a AMD sponsored tittle with FSR and AMD RT
I personally am not having these issues. What I’d suggest is to complete a full DDU reinstall of the latest AMD drivers. Make sure you don’t have any additional options selected within the driver control panel, and try maximizing all graphics settings to ultra + remove triple buffering and vsync in wow.
Sadly already done that many times. Like I said, it’s been happening even on a fresh install of windows, with nothing but the game and driver installed. Luckily it hasn’t happened for like a week now. It’s a problem with either the driver, or the game engine cause it’s sorta odd it started happening in wotlk classic as well, the moment they introduced the dragonflight engine don’t you think? It’s not a coincidence.
I seem to be having the same problem. For me it is crashing about once a day (±3h of play). It is only happening in wow and it is only happening since i upgraded to a 7900 xtx.
I used ddu before installing drivers when installing the videocard. I am also playing other games and I don’t have these crashes there.
Hey, so what helped me quite a bit was changing to DX11, and disabling anti-aliasing. That seems to reduce the likeliness of the driver crashing for me on 7900 XTX.
have you guys tried turning off enhanced sync in AMD advanced driver settings?
also what advanced driver settings are you using? and which ingame graphics settings?
Actually now they have technical preview for AMD AFMF that gives driver level frame generation enhanced sync no longer has any effect if AFMF is on, i always used enhanced sync but if also tested without for me i have screen freeze once a day, and if i clear the shader cache it takes a lot longer.
Blizzard has always ignored my issue so my sub will run out eventually, this is their last chance to fix it and compensate me i only pop in once in a while to check if situation improved.
Instead game now runs even worse as if i am back on a gtx 1080 at half the performance while i am on a 7900 XTX
Abselutly no issues in other games, amd drivers have been a emotional rollercoaster before for me, but that excuse ran out months ago.
Its only world of warcraft running like crap or having freezes.
