Another question from a beginner

My friends invited me to play the game — and now I’m in trouble, heh..
They help me figure everything out: they explain the lore, show me videos, all kinds of impressive raids. But at the same time, I fully realize how much I’m exhausting them with my questions.

I’ve noticed that the local community turned out to be quite friendly, even though many say the opposite.
Could someone give me a tip, some advice? I want to get stronger even without my friends’ help, so I can catch up to them as quickly as possible.

I have a problem with gear — to be precise, I just don’t know where to find it.
I’ve already made it to Midnight, but beyond that — I have no idea. People talked about Delves, but I can’t get past the third one. When I asked others for help, they just wouldn’t take me.

As for raids and keys — I’m not even talking about them; they definitely won’t take me there.
But where else am I supposed to get gear?

  1. Start with World Quests, or unlock them if you haven’t yet. They will give you blue adventure gear up to 225 ilvl.
  2. Next step will be delves most likely. You want to start pushing those up as far as you can in difficulty. You’ll get some gear as rewards, and they unlock weekly Vault slots with gear.
  3. Definitely sign up with the “Looking for Raid” in the dungeon finder.
  4. Mythic+ dungeons if your friends will do those
  5. You can craft gear
  6. Get lucky drops in the world

If you’re still leveling, just level to 90 first.
Scaling is a bit weird and gear gets replaced to fast to focus on it for now.

You can automatically queue up for 5-player dungeons with the Dungeon Finder tool. Random heroic difficulty dungeons will give you 230 ilvl drops. You could also manually look for a pre-made group for M+0 dungeons if heroic dungeons are way too easy for you. M+0 dungeons will start getting a bit more challenging because new boss mechanics will be included.

If you prefer solo content, you could do:

  • World bosses
  • Delves
  • Void assaults
  • Ritual sites
  • Prey
  • And regular world quests

Oh, and do the main weekly quest which gives you “sparks” and a loot box.

You will have a much easier time getting gear on a class that can tank. Later on you can set your loot spec to a dps if this is what you prefer.

Paladins can tank heal and dps, as can Monk and Druid.

Delves are pretty straightforward.

You have your companion, which you can set the role to whatever suits you best. If you are a DPS, set Valeera as healer and go slowly, pull mobs one by one until you learn the mechanics. Just dont stand on the floor circles and you should be fine.

Try not to worry too much about the lore. It has drifted far from what was established in the original Warcraft RTS games, and World of Warcraft has taken its own path for years. If someone wants to understand the original story, they would need to play those older games, because the modern narrative often feels inconsistent. It is simply not worth stressing over.

The World of Warcraft community can be very mixed. Depending on what content you do, you may come across anything from friendly players to outright toxicity. It is similar to how League of Legends developed its reputation in the MOBA genre. If you have not encountered the negative side of the community yet, consider yourself lucky, and hopefully you will not have to deal with it often.

When it comes to getting stronger, focus on learning your class and practicing in real content. Discord communities can be great for relaxed group runs, and gearing has many paths, including delves, rituals, current events, dungeons, and LFR. Since you are playing an evoker, the best approach depends on your specialization, but in general dungeons and Mythic Plus are reliable for upgrades. If your friends are not giving clear guidance, ask them directly what you should aim for next. And joining a guild can make everything easier, since you will have people to run content with and help you progress.

Dont do lfr its a big waste of time. Youll have people needing on gear despite having higher ilvl gear equipped. Focus on world quests and prey since you can do both at the same time. Try to join the weekly world boss runs as well via the group finder too, and thr weekly quest liadrin gives

Delves are a pretty decent way to earn gear. Keep doing Tier 3 delves for now. Once you’re level 90 you will be able to access the higher tiers and better rewards.
