Let’s establish the basics:
- I’m not very good and I know that. I used to. >10 years ago. I recognise my mistakes, as I still know core mechanics well, but I’m just not good enough to do any better anymore.
- I know that I’m not going to get the best gear, since I’m not the best player. That’s okay. That’s not what this is about.
- I’m not complaining about “gear being too strong” or whatever. That’s what gear is for - to have stronger char than other players. I know.
That said, this PvP system is horrible at low rating and it’s caused directly by PvE gear being fully usable in PvP. The arenas I’m having at low CR are pretty much binary. The players there are, eh, not very good. Trinket on first poly, bubble on first counterspell, die on reset. That kind of not very good, for the most part. We end up dominating them, no problem. As I said, I know the game. Despite not being quick and skilled, I know how to set up my interface, macros, etc & pull out decent chain cc and burst with at least half-brained partner.
However, there’s this wall of PvE powercreeps, who, although not much more skilled compared to player described above, are able to win, because gear. We can pull perfect >20 sec chain on one guy, but it barely matters, as 220 ilvl boomkin is just standing there soaking all our burst AoE killing us in the process in a matter of seconds.
This is not fun. I want to play balanced arenas against people ± on the same skill level with ± the same gear. With this system however, I’m stuck fighting either equally geared people at lower skill level, which is boring, or overgeared PvE powercreeps who win basically no matter what I do. Which is boring as well.
And let me state once again, loud and clear, because I can already feel some mouth-breather cracking his fingers preparing himself to tell me that I’m at low CR stuck because I’m bad.
I. Do. Not. Mind. Playing. At. Low. Rating.
Climbing. Is. Not. My. Intention.
All I want is balanced PvP and this system is not able to deliver it at low rating. Sure. I can imagine this system works just fine once you get higher. Because if you manage to get yourself gear that evens out PvE powercreeps, then you win easily, because they are bad. A little bit higher and only PvP players remain with skill being the only deciding factor. At lower rating, however, you can’t beat PvE powercreeps, because you don’t have gear, because you can’t beat PvE powercreeps, because you don’t have gear…
But anyway, why is this even a thing? We had resilience. It was on PvP gear. It was not on PvE gear. Player without resilience was irrelevant in PvP. It worked. How exactly we even ended up here? Bring back the resilience, problem solved. Wondering how did this brilliant idea of making gear from PvE fully relevant in PvP even occurred to someone. But he should be put in prison for life if he ever attempts to get involved in any kind of game development.
