I would want to be able to experience all of the new visual updates to Wow which will be coming with SL but my computer is quite outdated and doubtful I will be able to run the game on anything more then bare minimum.
Does Blizzard have any plans to enable Wow for GeforceNow or are would Blizzard be joining in some kind of partnership with Nvidia which would allow to use the GeforceNow service to play Wow?
They will also typically not announce these kinds of things in advance, your best bet is to keep watching the official blog or WoWhead for rumors perhaps if Blizzard’s stance on Cloud Gaming changes.
It was actually there during the Geforce Now beta. but Blizzard complained and it was removed.
Cloud Computing : Use the Platform, including a Game, in connection with any unauthorized third-party “cloud computing” services, “cloud gaming” services, or any software or service designed to enable the unauthorized streaming or transmission of Game content from a third-party server to any device.
Even if your hopes for cloud gaming stance change from Blizzard would come true, they are in a partnership with Google right now so if it’ll be on any platform that would be Stadia.
Well no rules are set in stone, so if they have been written, they may very well decide to change the stance against cloud gaming, but if none will talk about it nothing will change.
I know that nvidia did not approach this at start as the best way. I gave an example of Geforce Now because right now I am already using it to play more of my games then through a traditional approach, so that’s my preferential yes but if Stadia would allow me to play wow with a reasonable performance (and price) that would be fine as well.
From a game developer perspective whose income comes from subscription fees and premium payed visual additions enablement of a cloud gaming option is a win win effectively. Users don’t have to pay for expensive hardware to play, while at the same time can enjoy all of the visual improvements. It simplifies game development process - less platforms to support and even opens up the game to users who were locked down from the game (Linux, mac, hells even TV) and the game developer doesn’t need to spend any cash on this increased availability and user market.
With the current computers there are not a lot of reasons to buy a top spec rig so Blizz and other game developers will be leaving more and more people aside by making higher visually demanding games.
Right now if I would want to play Wow and enjoy the upgraded SL visuals I am looking at a price tag of about 2k Euros, that’s 2k euros that I don’t need to spend for anything other then playing Wow as all other games I have I play at max details through geforce now service.
2k euros that’s a lot of premium mounts, services or subscription fees for two more users (family members) for 4 years who could play this game but cannot at the moment because they don’t have PCs capable of handling wow in a way that would be visually attractive to them.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be done but it would require two subscriptions and I think Blizzard would not get their full payment out of it, something they would not be happy with.
I’m not sure it would work with the different regions either, but I could be wrong about that.
It would require a subscription to the geforce now/cloud provider and a subscription to blizzard yes, but would be still a win for you as a player.
Example 2k euro laptop = 16 YEARS of subscriptions payment (let’s say 10 euros) for cloud gaming service in which you don’t have to buy any new gaming computer. In a 16 year period you would most likely have to exchange your pc/laptop at least 3 times.
Instead you save cash, can buy your 33 premium mount, peripherals for gaming or go for an additional bear.
There is no reason why not to go for it if the performance of playing is fine.
