In the grand scheme of things the loss of their immortality has been a detriment and contributed to them being seen as ineffectual.
They gave all they had. Not much ha left. Now they lost their homeland and home.
Not really. Tyrande tuned her back to humans and their king. (not Night Elven king)
Tyrande still didn’t sign armistice as far as I know.
So from BFA to this day they stand alone with Worgen. The race who stood by them and only one in Alliance. Not even Draenei.
What are relations now, we don’t know, but I doubt there is much trust left towards rest of Alliance
Tyrande didn’t call any other race in G.O.D for help. that can tell you all you need to know. The fact they showed up was because of Alextrazsa.
She outright went against Anduin’s orders in BFA when he didn’t want to prioritise defending Darkshore after the attack. And Genn Greymane went straight with her, which tells you a lot minding that he’s pretty much become Anduin’s “foster parent” after Varian’s death.
I remember back in Legion when they decided to throw the nighbourne at us, alliance players were complaining about how totally unfair it was that they got tossed out of their city after helping.
Well as a Horde I pray that’s what happens when that tree pops up on the dragon isles. I’m not joking, I think it’s the healthiest thing to do.
I do want to say that the story is crap, I mean the one where the SUPER-INTER-FACTION-FRIENDS show up. However, ignoring that stuff, the story of the new nelf tree is good. It’s not some token of nelf vanity but an actual boon from their diety that’s been , I guess, approved by everyone. And I think the perfect ending with a sign on the Tree-city’s entrance that states “no Horde allowed”. I’m not being sarcastic.
Off course blizzard could have written it differently, Tyrande could have applauded Thalyssra for resisting both peer pressure and the legion, in very much the same way she and the resistance and kaldorei had done the first time round generally it would have been differnt - i fel tthat was the more likely approach…but the way they did it was plausible too, especially if you want to distance the playable night elves from the nightborne you had decided was going to go horde and so doing a U-turn on your initial story we saw in 7.0 where night elves were not distrustful of nightborne but sympathetic [Farodin, Nighteyes, Val’sharah refugees, Moonguard etc]. But they wanted to take the night elf sub race to the horde and give the horde the beset assets they’d done for night elves and so continuing the bias that it appeared at first legion had finally put an end to.
So we got the approach we get. Deep dive is simple… Tyrande loves her city and misses it dearly, but the arrogance and addiction of the Highborne in that particular period of the pre-sunderig era was something the surviving kaldorei (Highborne included) are not proud of, but worse of all, letting the legion in - after the night elves have been known for famously rejecting and fighting the legion, the NIghtborne , high as kites, utterly addicted and just opening up to the legion would have deeply annoyed and angered Tyrande, she’d have needed Elune therapy. She is shard on Thalyssra at first, like a strict High Priestess, and furious at what’s happening in Suramar - not as angry and distrustful as she was when the humans appeared in Kalimdor, but close
Especially in contrast to say the Darnassian Highborne who had all resisted addiction responsibly and the Shen’dralar who had overcome it, neither of which opened the doors of their home to the demons.
While I think Tyrande’s anger at Thalyssra was misplaced in the opening quest, she does get over it and is proud of the Nightborne by the end, but she isn’t flattering at all, Blizzard paint Tyrande as overbearing and demanding - at least this is how Thalyssra finds her. More like two Queen Bs in the for Thalyssra to expect Tyrande to be just shows the arrogant side of the Nightborne. But it does also show Thalyssra cares enough to be offended
Which is actually an interesting point. Because Night Elves and Blood Elves are the only two examples, who don’t have their “subraces” (don’t like the term since it’s usually used in a depreciating way) on same faction side. Yeah yeah I know the background. Alliance players wanted “High Elves” and Horde players claimed Blood Elves were the actual High Elves and if they had given both, Nightborne and Void Elves to Alliance, Horde players would’ve whined about ALLIANCE BIAS. As a Night Elf player though, I find this rather unfair and also making little sense storywise other than “Fine, if you’re not explicitly begging me to stay, I’ll go Horde!”
Hahaha. Ngl seeing that corrupted Night Elf temple Tomb of Sargeras is hit different. Not to mention NE as fel corrupted henchmen of the Legion.
Why should she? Why must she? Honestly I’m so over it with painting female characters, who have their own will and a strong one at that as bad witches and mad b*es. She had all right to be mad and it would’ve been an interesting story to see how Tyrande and Thalyssra overcome this rift between them both in future content. They would’ve granted both characters more personality if they’d have Thalyssra come down her high Nightborne horse, and unwillingly but sincerely offer Tyrande to join the rest again and Tyrande be like “FINE, pack your bags we’re going to Darnassus. But take your felly shoes off at the door!” The tragedy that followed would’ve at least had a bit of meaning if it was for the bonding of two sister-like characters, both stubborn but fighting side by side when the survival of their own kin is at stake. Instead, they let Thalyssra get lost in a lovestory (granted, a cute one at least) while her kin was literally set on fire. Just Wow.
Please stop drinking coffee and energy drinks at the age of 13.
Seriously, why should she? She lost her home city. Why should Tyrande be nice to some coward and traitor who never fought Legion in WOTA? You must understand, For someone who was immortal for 10 000 years the memory stays fresh for hell of a long time. Thalysra got exactly what she needed to get. She was put down by lowborne who is now a winner and who helped her unlike Nightborne who never gave a flaying f… about rest of Kaldorei and rest of Azeroth
Nightbornee should have never become anyone’s allied race, Stay Eneutral for some time if they really needed to join someone. But aft first the should have stayed Neutral just like Night Elves in Azsuna are. True, they are not alive but it applies
Being neutral would eventually result in being irrelevent and they were a big hit with the playerbase during the start of Legion.
I saw many threads and youtube videos about; “What will happen to the Nightborne after Legion.” and “I don’t want to say goodbye to the Nightborne.”
Blizzard had to do something and they knew the High Elf call was still strong. Indeed, made stronger since High Elves were directly involved in the Hunter Questline, Suramar and later - Argus.
So, they had to bring the Nightborne over to the Horde in some way, but somewhere - some idiot lost all forms of sanity and said “lets do Void Elves instead of High Elves.”
As a Highborne fan, I am so glad the Nightborne are on the Horde, because otherwise - they’d have made Highborne Shen’dralar even more irrelevant than what they are now. It’s bad enough having Human Mages everywhere and on the same side, the last thing the Shen’dralar lore needed was the nightborne making them irrelevant.
I think they could have given High Elves, as proof of giving the Void Elves the “Blood Elf” skin tones and hair colours.
Granted, I reckon different hair styles and hair colours would have been better, but still…get a story together and have the Alliance High Elves take Crystalsong Forest and bam…you’ve got playable High Elves.
Rather than something about Darkhan, the Quel’Thalas traitor and something something void something something.
If they wanted to go down that path, then make it about the only known Blood Elf Mage who studied the void to the nth degree…Astromancer Solarian.
The Nightborne are an excellent addition to the game. It’s baffling how many claim to be fans of Elves only to scoff at the idea that a decent chunk of people are more interested in the Highborne side of their history as opposed to the nature loving side of things.
To me, the scoffs come at them being Horde, but I can’t fathom why going Horde is a bad thing.
Surely, being Horde is so much better than being Alliance? The Shen’dralar Highborne are already being made to feel unimportant by the Humans…wouldn’t the Nightborne on the Alliance just confirm that feeling of Shen’dralar unimportance? I reckon so.
I don’t particularly care for either the Horde or the Alliance, personally, though I do think it’s a good thing to have another playable race in the Horde that the Blood Elves can connect with on a deeper level.
The Forsaken sort of had that angle to them back before Sylvanas went completely off the rails but even then, they’re undead and a reminder of everything that led to Quel’thalas being being ravaged by the Scourge.
There’s a lot of stuff I prefer about the Alliance in terms of aesthetics but I always struggle to connect to the faction since so often the longer lived, more powerful races are constantly playing the role of sidekick to humans. Not even the Draenei are spared since Turalyon steals a lot of stuff that should instead be reserved for their kind.
You do know that in WC3 Suramar was destroyed? And just like Void elfs the Nightborne have NO history at all. They are made to be given to horde. Suramar should have never even existed because, as I said, it was destroyed in WOTA.
