Any tips for player with old PC?

Hello all !

I’m an enh shaman trying to do my best in raiding environment  But during the fights, when I press the buttons, it feels like there is some “lag” between the abilities (mostly see that when the GCD ‘should’ start after i press an ability). Internet connection is perfectly fine, having +/- 10ms all the time.

I know that I have and old PC(gtx 760 , i7 4770, 8gb ram)…but wanted to know if those are the limitations or if I can do something to improve the experience

Take care all and have fun playing the game !

Just turn everything down ? You need like particle density or something like that, thats the only thing that affects spells, turning that down will make it harder to see AoEs on the ground for example, so you want to keep it up, or not if you arent dummy and can play PvE without that …

Rest can go out of the window …

Also render scale is great thing to cut down a little … unless you play 4k or some 96″ and trying to use 800x600, it doesnt really matter …

I had crappy old notebook, that could run the game at 1920x1080, but I lowered down a little, and it did wonders … while still looking reasonably good …
(I cut down the settings so hard, my character would appear barefoot when I zoomed out the camera xD )

The Haswell i7 is more than adequate.
GPU is a bit low these days, try find a 1030 or 1050 (relatively cheap)
also another 4gb or 8gb might possibly help.

Also make sure you got an SSD. The game does load a ton of data all the time.

Put Shadows at low, you dont need them unless your playing a game which requires to see something skulking around a corner ?

If you want some particular help, BTAG Ishy#259 see if I can help you more.

lisssen, i play on a potatoe and it somehow works, ill give you the best graphics settings ever:

you put everything on lowest/off in graphics and advanced tabs
BESIDES projected textures these u leave on

then u put render scale on 33% and lags will be gone. if its too pixelated and your pc can handle more you can turn up render scale to whatever 50% or even 80% but this specific setting helps me with lag alot

It’s not you, i already heard that from my guildmate.
When i spam steady shot with my hunter, seems like a 80ms input lag.

And there is no Press on Key option on this Wotlk chimera client.
I only find Bartender for that.

Classic has horrendous optimization, it’s not only skill lag despite sitting on 15ms with a $5k PC, sometimes mobs just stand there and look at your for seconds before they do something.

Like a year ago i raided on a PC close to yours at work (“I was fixing it” don’t tell HR) and the game ran fine with 45+fps.
I recommend clean re-install of the game and as a few addons and weakauras as possible.

Afew weeks ago I was stuttering in raids and doing that fixed it for me with the game now running at 100+ fps in raids(still sad considering my PC is is pretty good, Just the game is not “optimized” whatever that means at this point).
I have the game set on Classic graphics btw (slider 3)

My Medion PC is legit 10 yrs old and has slightly worse spec’s than your PC.
It purs like a kitten BUT I legit have EVERYTHING OFF (or as low as I can put it) in the graphic settings

I only lagg when I am in big Hubs like Oribos/Orgrimmar.

its probably because of an addon not your spec

I would say do a UI reset, a full proper one not just turning them off, then put just about everything on low.

Also Post your actual FPS and latency before and after doing what I suggest. Also never use wireless.

I have a FX6300 and a 1050Ti and get 70+ fps with everything on maximum.

im using Elvui/weakauras…The main problem for me is that From the actuall press of the key, there is like a 10% of the gcd where the ability button seems to be pressed/queued until it casts :frowning: was also looking for the Press on key option, but yeah…blizz…

I’ve noticed some Weakaura’s actually overload my PC bigtime.
I’ve deleted all the raid/dungeon WA’s and my problem was partly fixed.
Those WA’s have way to much stuff packed into them, if they started loading it lagged me out…

Try filtering them out, might help you aswell.

Yeah me too it’s weird

This is not a Blizzard problem, since you are giving very little information, I think it’s something local to your machine. So if you are unwilling to try what people have suggested then you will need to just tough it out.

hey ! had to wait to do an actual 25 man raid…tried with all setting to minimum , and during fights i was having around 25-40 fps…sometimes with spikes to 20. all setting were on minimum/disabled except the projected textures.

Only had 2 weakauras active, the elvui and some minor addons.

Are you using Recount? Its known to cause some lag in combat.

You can as well try some lite Linux distro just to make sure that all your resources are dedicated to the game, with zero bloatware, malware, loggers etc. Personally I am running WoW Classic on Linux and I am very pleased.

Again, try with NO ADDONS with a UI reset.

Edit: So you know, ElvUI isn’t one addon but many batched together. Also, do you have addon errors turned off?

Maybe Elvui takes up alot, never used it, but as dottie has suggested, try to turn everything off and then compare current fps in a raid with what you had with everything turned on.
