Anyone get random micro stutters when some things happen?

Like for example when moving to another area and the name of the area pops up my fps micro stutters from 141>131 and goes back up.It happens occasionally.

Also occasionally either when using skills on large packs of mobs or when large packs die.(With this most of the times it comes and goes with periods of relative smoothness)

Its random when it happens.Rig:1080ti/9900k/970 evo SSD.

Addons I have are elvui/bigwigs/littlewigs/Threatplates

I also forgot to mention mechagon workshops seems be really micro stuttery for some reason. No other dungeon is like this.

Did you measured 1%/0.1% low? Also the game will fall below 100 FPS or even below 60 FPS during mass actor events. Stutter with % low below 30 should not overall happen with such hardware - so if actually you have such bad frametimes then it’s something to be investigated - with latencymon, sensor monitoring, and more.

At start you should check if the problem exists without addons and clean WTF (settings) and cache folders as those can and often do cause problems.

Its never that big of a drop.Like I said my fps goes from 144 to 131 for a split second which feels like a micro stutter. The only real stutter I get “occasionally” is I get this single stutter which happens randomly most of the time when skills are going off but it rarely happens. (like maybe 2-3 times in a 10 hour session)

I’ve had it happen to me when transition between zones (when the name pops up in the middle) and when using skill/killing large pack.

Also latencymon picked nothing. There’s no temp spikes/SSD spikes.Nothing.

Funnily enough im not getting the issue now and I’ve done nothing. It comes and goes.

Also the addons are obviously not the issue since there’s millions of ppl using them and you don’t hear them saying anything.

130 FPS average on it own is normal and no stutter, where as 130 FPS with one or odd frametime below 20-30FPS can create perceived stutter so the question is doe the FPS drops slightly below 140 only or does it drop because you get one very slow frate - MSI afterburner or CapFrameX can measure that.

Addons on their own may work but in combination or in specific version can spawn more or less LUA error or work bit incorrectly which then can spike the CPU load or just impact the game if they flood errors.

If addons aren’t doing this, latencymon didn’t picked anything then it may be due to game itself - which could require setting a FPS limiter slightly lower than that 140 - low enough to try to avoid those stutter frames now and then.

When it happens theres usually a minor frametime spike so its def not a normal drop.I’ve had it happen to me when I was simply flying with no one around.

Update:I’ve had it happen to me again when I got on a cart in voldun and as I went down I got the alert of the new area I was going in the middle of my screen when it happened and it felt more like a stutter this time.

This with your suggestion of 130fps and it still happened.

Update2:Ok the issue with the stutter when transitioning to another area was caused by elvui. The random micro hitches on using skill is also MUCH more prone with elvui then without.

picture proof killing the same monster elvui off/on

From my experience such short fps spikes are caused by addons which are loading modules for certain zones, markers on the map for example.

this is not obvious, if addons are set up badly, or you have few addons that do the same and work on similar files you can get errors.

Do you actually have a 144hz monitor?

Because if you don’t, you are pointlessly requesting performance from your hardware without any effect.

With a rig like that?yes

And you have set it up for 144hz through advanced display adapter settings in windows? No offense, just checking.

A lot of people just plug in their monitor and expect it to work.

Lastly, when you say stutter, do you mean screen flickering or that you just experience 10 fps drops here and there?

Because 10 fps drops are very normal depending on your camera angle.

Edit: Again just checking, you are using a DisplayPort cable directly from your GPU to your monitor?
Some accidentally plug theirs into the motherboard or use a HDMI cable because they think it’s the same.

xD yes its connected with a DP and its at 144 both in windows settings and nvidia settings

Its not a flicker but more of the whole screen does a frame hitch (micro stutter)

By 10 fps drop I mean there is a quick 144>133>144fps occasionally. (turns out it happens every time I transition in a new area and the name of the area pops up which after some talks on the elvui discord it seems to be an known issue thats getting fixed with the next update. (altough it does happen very rarely without any transitions in places so it may not just be an elvui issue)

The only other issue that I’m noticing now is random micro hitches when using skills on mobs.Seems place dependant where it happens imgur*com/a/AxGp5DT (replace * with a .) it also seems to be an elvui issue but the devs there don’t seem to notice/acknowledge it because its such a subtle issue and random (seems to be more obvious if there’s mobs around)

I also forgot to mention mechagon workshops seems be really micro stuttery for some reason. No other dungeon is like this.

I think that is a very acceptable drop, especially since you are pushing 144fps most of the time.

When you transition, there is extra load because well, you transition and load a new area.

Addons can/may cause slight performance hickups as well.

Workshop is slightly heavier on performance in comparison to other dungeons, as there are a lot of blinking lighting effects, and animations around the dungeon. Spinning lights, moving cogwheels etc.

But let me be perfectly realistic here, if you are running the game on high/ultra graphics and pushing anything above a steady 60-70 fps… I mean…

Brah… be happy  Most people don’t get that.

Don’t get me wrong, my rig is:

2070 super GTX
9700k 3,6ghz
16gb DDR4
SSD

I have actually limited my fps to 120 and although I run high/ultra, I have lowered shadows and spell effects slightly because the 10-20 fps drop bothered me as well.

TBH, anything above 80 fps is overkill for WoW, I mean… it’s not a AAA first person shooter we playing ;p
