Just like the title suggests I am looking at RPing a Shattered hand orc, an original green skinned one to be exact. Anyone got any interesting lore or advice to throw at me before I do so?
don’t get a cool tinker arm.
maybe get one of those fist weapons that look like you have a blade instead of a hand.
alternatively you could be the first orc (i have seen) to take part in the orc spy work since the hordes version of SI:7 is called Shattered Hand, and they are so rarely in use or talked about.
What do you mean by cool tinker arm? Of course I’m going to have to stick something on the end of my stubby wrist. Was actually going to have him of started out with the hordes Shattered hand for some of his back story aswell
Fascinating. I was pondering just the same thing last night, thinking you dont see many shatterhand orcs around. I might be planing on making a Mag’har though.
Oh cool! I’m a returning player and not caught up with the Mag’har fully. I thought it would be best to stick to a regular orc, and it would make it easier to tie him into the Shattered hand organisation. What makes you want to go Mag’har, if I may ask?
Ensure that you shatter the hand.
That part is key.
Well, the MU horde lost a lot of their clan identity as other races joined it’s ranks. Most of the shatterhand orcs seem to have stayed in outlands and became the fel orcs. There they rose in power and became a large percentage of the fel Horde. Those who came to azeroth slipped into the shadows as the more promenant clans (warsong and frostwolf) became the large percentage. Now, this might be a good point to start from aswell. Everyone loves a good underdog story. Kargath was still held at high regards within the horde even though he unfortunately came to be the leader of fel corruption, many still honor his fall.
AU orcs are still very clan focused. For 30+ years they have mingled by themselves on Dreanor. Though at the end they all came together to survive their common enemy, their skin and armor still reflects their heritage. Other then that, these 30+ years we are very unaware of what have happened in AU Dreanor, giving you a lot of space to kind of figure it out yourself. Whatever happened to the shatterhands when Kargath met his honorable death in very Colosseum that he liberated his people from?
Hello! As someone who RPed one… Here is what i know:
Keep in mind, most Main Universe Shattered Hands remained on Draenor and later became Fel orcs, Kargath Bladefist himself included, whom became the Warchief of Fel Horde during TBC, under Illidan’s command… We kill him in Shattered Halls dungeon.
Although, the legacy of the Shattered Hand didn’t end! After Thrall reformed the Horde, an organization has been made, from the clan… The Shattered Hand… Shattered Hand is now a spy/assassination/ operation/Intelligence organization, counterpart to Alliance’s SI:7. It now has other racws within it aswell. Your MU orc would most likely be an operative of the Hand.
Also, i have been told IC, but not sure… That the tradition of cutting hand and replacing it with Bladefist isn’t anymore, after Thrall’s rising as Warchief, he removed the tradition. (I have no source, might be a Headcanon.)
Also, Kargath and Shattered Hand are still being Honored, even with Kargath’s fate.
You have the Bladefist bay in durotar, near Orgrimmar, and Kargath stronghold (and now the new Kargath) in Badlands, with (the now dissolved) Kargath expeditionary force being stationed there.
Hope it helped!
I mean steampunk / robot / wood construct arm/hand is not the shattered hand way.
they dishand themselves in honor of the their warchief, not because it is cool and they get a sweet lump of metal on their hand stump.
also
you can even find fel orcs from the shattered hand who have removed both their hands, for some unknown reason.
Thanks everyone! I actually did know about there being very few MU Shattered hand left, thought having to jump through a portal to fight for your people only to have to jump back through it to kill them would pose some interesting character development questions.
As for the hand removal, that did stump me at first, I did end up reading about some Shattered hand orcs in the traveler novel which still removed hands and even made an ogre cut off his hand so it could join the clan.
With all that being said I’m not really sure if I should stick to MU or perhaps try something new with the Mag’har. The green skin might be rail roaded a little down a certain path, but I do have an idea that could soften him up a bit if I were to choose that path.
I’d say go for MU, the twist and legacy within their story can be very cool and interesting! But in the end, go for what you enjoy more.
Also, you can even be an MU Mag’har, with being Shattered Hand, your story will be quite complicated though, but can be interesting!
This is a slight misconception. The Shattered Hand clan, albeit small, existed still around MoP more or less as a nomadic warband as we see in Traveller. Their clan structure so still very much exists, but again, small.
Then orcs come. Orcs enter canyon behind Alliance. Orcs fight Alliance soldiers from behind. Orcs kill humans, kill dwarves. Alliance soldiers turn from Throgg to fight orcs. Now Throgg kill Alliance soldiers from behind. Finally, Alliance soldiers all dead like Mahrook warriors. Orcs and Throgg meet in middle. Meet over bodies of Alliance and Mahrook. Throgg see orcs. Throgg see orcs only have one hand. These orcs Shattered Hand. Not many Shattered Hand left in Azeroth. Not many Shattered Hand orcs left. No Mahrook ogres left. Throgg see Shattered Hand orcs are great warriors. Shattered Hand orcs see Throgg is great warrior. Shattered Hand orc Teremok look around at dead. Shattered Hand orc Teremok nod head at Throgg. Teremok say, “This ogre’s a fighter. Strongest of his clan.”
Mahrook warrior Throgg nod at Teremok and say, “Throgg strongest of all.” Teremok say, “The Shattered Hand could use an ogre like you, Throgg. Join us. Join us few. We band of brothers. Become Shattered Hand, and you become our brother.” Throgg look down at Thrull. Thrull was Throgg’s brother. But humans kill Thrull. Thrull dead now. All Mahrook dead now. Throgg no got brothers left. Throgg say, “Throgg need brothers. Throgg join Shattered Hand.” Teremok nod. Teremok cut off Throgg’s hand with axe. Good hand. But gone now. Throgg only got one hand now. Throgg is Shattered Hand now. Shattered Hand blacksmith Ulmok put metal stump on Throgg where no hand is now. Give Throgg quiver with many weapons. Show Throgg how to screw weapons onto metal stump.
I think what you should keep an eye out for is the backstory of your character. For example how old he is, what he experienced. For example, was he there to eradicate the Arakkoa? How did he feel about the Shattered Hand clan being thrown out of Hellfire Citadel and not being able to go to war and thus missing most of it. How did he feel about essentially being put into an internment camp not too soon after the Shattered Hand did get some part to play in it and so on.
Did he go to Outland and see what became of his former clan? How does he thus feel about darker magics? How about fel specifically? To what conclusions does this lead him considering Sylvanas’ leadership now etc. etc.
I feel like the concept of honour, stances on darker magics (the SH used blood magic back on Draenor), stances on the committed draenei genocide (does he even regret it, considering the sadism of the SH) are something that may be quite different in Orcs of the Shattered Hand clan compared to some other Orc clans. So that’s interesting stuff to think about because it would also influence his views on the current Horde.
Also, my writing today is quite convoluted so apologies if some things are hard to understand.
That’s true, I meant that they still exist, mostly as organization, didn’t mean they are extinct, just i failed to mean what i meant.

Love the Throgg story! Poor guy…
Thanks the advice about back story aswell. Something I’m not one 100% on is the whole time line exactly, so I don’t actually know how old I should make him. I definitely want him to be old enough to of been in some fights before the dark portal.
As for some of the other questions, I think it’s pretty safe to say that a Shattered hand orc would despise the fel, I picture mine in my head taking it as far as not wanting to breed for the sake of not contributing to the spread of its corruption.
As for the war chief, there would not be much love for her at all.
See, that’s the thing. Shattered Hand love power, they like to feel powerful, strong and to inflict paint upon others (and some even on themselves). At the same time they are former slaves so their sense of freedom plays a major role as well. I personally like the ambivalence.
The timeline is a bit tricky. So according to the unofficial timeline, Lords of War (the vid I sent above) happens around -11 (before the Dark Portal). What that means is your char should at least be around 43-44 to be born when the SH clan settles in the Spires of Arak. To be one of those that freed themselves, he’d have to be even older (do remember that Orcs mature more quickly than humans).
So if you want a proper veteran who freed himself from the ogres’ slavery + fought the Draenei etc., you should go for one who is now at least 55 or so. That would mean he was about 12 when he freed himself with the rest of the SH. Ideally likely even older.
Lovely, thank you!
Think I’ll probably stick him in his early 40s then, maybe his mother was one to free herself. I certainly get the whole power thing but I really do think the whole fel business is another level, See it change you, see it warp and change your people to the point where you yourself have to take them down. Maybe I’m too soft, I don’t know!
No, it can definitely go either way. I too think a Shattered Hand orc would be absolutely reviled to feel addicted/dependent on fel magic or that he is not in full control. But at the same time it’s not easy to let go of it etc.
That is very true, proven dozens of times with other races aswell. Poor Shattered hand orc, first the hands, then all the friends. I imagine a Shattered hand orc would feel pretty forced to tie himself up with the horde as much as possible.
