Anyone own a Ryzen 7 2700x?

Hi guys

I currently run a
I54460 quad core 3.2 GHz
Gtx 1060 6gb
16gb ram

I have ordered a i5 9600k but I am contemplating whether to change my mind and go for an AMD?

The reason I didn’t is because it doesn’t outperform the recent Intel’s on FPS gaming, but it does it only lacks behind about 10 percent and uses hardly any of its CPU.

Does anyone actually own this and can give me honest advice whether it’s worth to buy? Are the frame rates good in wow?

I know personally I have no problems running an i5 off 8 gigs ram, 8 gigs graphics card and an SSD drive.

Personally I think the SSD drive is one of the best things you can invest in, especially for killing load lag in world.

My honest opinion is that this is the absolute worst time to be buying a CPU ever. Zen 2 is coming in the next months and is projected to vastly outperform the 2700x. You’re pretty much buying an old model right now when you can wait for a bit to get much more performance for the same price.

2700x is fine for games, it’s not a big difference in games but it really depends on your resolution, at 1080p it’s a smidge behind, at 1440p and 4k it’s the same as Intel.

But i’m only basing that on stock to stock, not stock to OC as I see little value in that comparison.

I run the 2700x at ultra graphics I get around 75-200 just depends where I am in the game world.

But as Blutelfe pointed out the Ryzen 3000 range is being launched at CES, so likely around end of feb for actual products. Should be interesting.

I guess it comes down to this, if the difference is 3-7 fps at 90+ fps do you actually care? Personally I don’t because the benefits to what I also use it for are far greater.

The i5 is faster on a single thread. While the Ryzen has a overall higher benchmark. What is better? Probably the Ryzen CPU. But it depends. Older games or emulators that doesn’t utilize multithreading will probably run faster on i5. Most games are still very dependant on that singe thread performance. To be honest all tripple A publishers use multithreading pretty well. If they don’t they are most likely dogsh!t (*cough* World of warcraft).

In the latest WoW patch, WoW has become more multithread friendly. So now do WoW run best on i5 9600k or 2700X? Who knows. You will be fine with one or the other(probably still will be faster on the intel one if I had to guess).

If you want it for gaming only intel will most likely be better.
If you want to stream on twitch and game, pick the Ryzen one.

If you have already bought the intel one, I would really not be arsed to change it to a 2700X.

Side note, are you sure the AMD processor will fit your motherboard? Intel and AMD uses different sockets(LGA1151 or AMD4). Just saying.

I would get the Ryzen, the latest patch for DX12 just opened multithreading right up

This does sound good, however I am stuck in a situation where I do not intend to upgrade my graphics card for the foreseeable future.

Soo… does this mean that if I wait until early next year, will it be pointless because the newer processor will perform the exact same as a 2700x due to the GPU being a bottleneck?

“wait in few months a new generation of cpu or graphics card will come out”. After a few months when that cpu or graphic card comes out they will be saying the same thing again wait a few months and a new one will come out. In tech progress is never ending you will always be waiting for that next big new thing.

Worry about the next gen when it truly comes out. They have been chanting this next gen BS every year now and it is still not out yet.

I would not worry about the CPU bottlenecking due to the GPU.

stay intel for wow, wow needs single core performance and intel is still better at that.

and yes i know about the 8.1 ‘‘improvements’’ but it doesn’t make wow magically use all your cores and threads.

Get the 2600 x

just buy the 2600x , theres no need for a 2700x or a new intel cpu when your using a 960gtx, the 2600x is an utter steal for its current price point.

remember when you see benchmarks from youtubers like gamers nexus or hardware unboxed , they are pairing the CPU’s with a 2080 TI. your never gonna see that FPS unless you plan on a serious GPU upgrade in almost all titles.

That only helped a bit in open world zones.

Didn’t do anything for raiding or worldbosses where it matters most.

@OP Get the Intel CPU, IPC is still king in WoW.

Why not here?

Right so guys. AMD sucks. Sorry to say it but this is what i done.

The youtube video is a benchmark of a 2018 cpu ryzen 2600. His graphic card is pretty much equal to my 1060 gtx 6gb also.

I basically copied everything he did in this video and even with my i5 4460 quad core 3.4 ghz max turbo i was getting better fps than him by like 5 to 6

So glad i saw that video. Im sorry but for ny processor to be beating a latest gen processor which is meant to be faster, its appauling. I think ive decided since i am just a pure gamer, i might just stick with my intels for upgrades
