If Blizzard sought to portray an independent, strong role-model, who is also flawed , realistic and inspiring, they have succeded!
The Accuser , Hariett Crimsonshade, is such an amazing character that I was not expecting to become a favourite of mine.
Seriously, out of all the newly introduced characters, The Accuser is undoubtedly among my favourites.
Do you agree?
Who are your favourite new characters?
Well… I do like her, mostly. I don’t think her character is particularly innovative, but I don’t think a well-crafted character needs to be. She faces some interesting challenges, and always acts in an examplary fashin. I understand why you would call her a role-model.
Where I kinda disagree is with you calling her flawed. Frankly, I don’t see it in the version we get to know. Yes, she supposedly has a very, very dark past. But the whole point is that she isn’t that person anymore, so I find it hard to call that a character flaw. What we see is a resolute woman with strong moral convictions, wisdom, poise and experience, eloquent, powerful, responsible and decisive… pretty much an ideal.
Even her failure in standing against the Lord Chamberlain is more of a character strength than a weakness, since we’d have found her cold or arrogant, if she didn’t have a strong reaction to the confrontation with her daughter.
Am I overlooking some flaws here?
I have to say… I am very much enjoying the Kleia&Pelagos duo. Yes, if you wanted to make a WoW-based show for little kids, those two and some stewards having adventures in Bastion, solving problems with the power of friendship and overcoming doubts and fears, would be a strong candidate… But that’s kinda what I like about it. We have so much melodrama in WoW, but genuine feeling warmth and friendship is quite rare.
I just like the naive earnestness with which they face their tasks, and the brave face they try to maintain when things get rough. They aren’t exactly the most complex of characters… but they really don’t have to be.
I do like how, once the push comes to shove, she basically acts like a frustrated mother and actually has a personal stake in getting the souls on their path to redemption, in her own way. If I had a copper for every time it feels like she’s thinking “I can’t believe I still have to say this, to this very same soul”, I’d be a very rich shaman.
Chyrus. He’s actually Kyrian, and has his s*it together. Goes meditate and reflect when he has doubts, rather than fly like a loose axe and join the enemy just because “the path is FLAAAWed”. Chyrus, instead, thinks about issues, and keeps control over his mind. Obviously, for a human that’s an unnatural feat, but for a Kyrian, it’s basically the basics.
Plague Deviser Marileth. There’s just something about his constant cheerful outlook despite the fate of the House of Plagues, and how he still holds Margrave Stradama as his first and foremost soulbound. Sure, people may get annoyed about how he’s constantly being like “hey, Apprentice”, but I personally find it rather sweet. And when it comes to loyalty, few could outdo him.
I am not sure I could pick just one, but I like brokers, as a concept.
Trader So’lek:
Can you summon another case of the liquid that makes them more honest? Trader So’ran:
The truth potion or the wine? Trader So’lek:
Let’s go with the one that tastes better.
Trader Ba’telk:
I am growing fond of these mortals. Many possess flexible morals. I can appreciate that. Trader Ba’gor:
Not sure they would agree. They seem to believe they are the heroes of the story. Trader Ba’telk:
That depends on who is telling the story, does it not?
There is a good doze of them being honest and mysterious at the same time. IMO a good material for both “good” and “evil” characters, with a possibility to go back and forth bepending on what is profatable.
2nd place could go to attendants, but I am not sure if the devs with all the “free will” speeches could nail the idea of the Purpose and something that could indeed challenge idealized concept of “free will”, in whatever flavour the devs see it.
I’ve yet to play a Revendreth character though that sounds interesting. I barely remember her story from the main story too.
I’ve yet to find that I’m feeling attached to / interested in. Maybe I’m just a bit cynical as I’m fully aware most of these characters will be ditched by the end of the expansion, hell some of them didn’t even make it to the end of the patch (looking at you mr Krexus).
Though what did take me pleasantly by surprise was Alexandros’ Morgraine story arch and the why he ended up in Maldraxus and not in Bastion, a question the character asked himself. I don’t tend to like the “pious, morally unbendable, strong leader” types in any stories but this one just seems to be going a slightly better direction.
On the other hand I am interested on seeing how they’re going to handle more interactions in the next patch: Drakka - Thrall (hopefully better than WoD), Morgraines all being basically DKs now, Kael Thas - Vashj, Uther - Jaina etc.
I also like the Accuser out of the Venthyr team the most. I like them all but she is definitely the strong point for me and I still find it weird that she is not your first Soulbind when you join the Covenant and you instead join with Nadja who you only seen once in the whole Revendreth storyline. In my opinion the Accuser serves the role Kleia and Pelagos serve in Bastion so she was the logical choice.
The Accuser being one of the Harvesters is more at same level that a paragon is in Bastion. It would be a bit too much if we’re able to Soulbind with a denizen of the shadowlands of that status and position when compared to the other covenants.
Blizz, would then have to do the same with the other three to make it fair lore wise and avoid a favouritism situation. Margraves for Maldraxxus and Dromans for Ardenweald would be the equivalents in the other two.
We’re basically paired up with individuals who are already a sort of adventurer in their own realms when we arrive.
