Arcane RPer making a return? Question mark?

Hi all!

As the title says, I’m returning to RP after a 5-6 year break.

As of late, I’ve seen that the quality of RP is making its rounds again, as it does in the cycle of WoW, and although I admit I should never have left, my stepping away was mainly due to some IRL things that took priority and committing to a Roleplay guild/community would have been a struggle.

With that shizz mainly dealt with and done I am getting the itch! As a result, I’m potentially looking for a community/guild for a brief time before I potentially leave and start a guild/join another.

I’m aware that might sound a bit odd, however, I have a particular route in mind for my character which would require him to “re-enter” the populated world after a period of solitude and use the community/guild to then potentially make a name for himself in a magical field to such a degree that I create a “new” University of Dalaran. I have been curious about creating a mysterious, socially awkward character that is someone that is wanting to be part of something, so must embark on that journey of what is ok. This will be a quick process as I want to be cautious about boring people interacting with me.

I used to be one of the old core members of the old roleplay guild and would love to see something similar return. Having said that, I’d love to join any existing and established Magic Academy, if they exist.

His background will be a long, lost “archmage” who was thought dead and left him isolated and reeling, dealing with some traumatic experience. Standard stuff. I want to portray him as the standard, slightly crazy mage. I intend to lean into the stereotype somewhat.

What I’m looking for are communities that I can join/interact with. Please let me know who would be happy to take me. I’m also happy to join several different communities if they are happy with that and help with events or other planning if required or desired.

Welcome back to RP!

I think your best bet would be asking around in the Dalaran community: https://discord.gg/YUppSRT4

Dalaran has an active mage RP scene, but I don’t know if there are active academy guilds. There used to be <Academy of Magical Arts> and <The Adamant Scholars>, but I think both have gone dormant.

I’d personally not recommend the title Archmage unless you got a group of players under you. It’s going to make it all the more difficult to be recruited into a guild, seeing how archmages aren’t meant to be your average member.

There are definitely mage guilds recruiting in Dalaran. I’d give the city a shot. Each Tuesday there is a market with people going there. Don’t miss that!

Thank you. Ill have a look ooc.

I agree and under normal circumstances i would want to roleplay a trainee. This might still be the case if there is an adequate guild. I’ll need to assess for myself now I think.

If not an archmage, you can still be a fully trained and respected mage, really.

To throw a spanner in the works, I’d say that you can absolutely use the tital of Archmage, but you just need to be aware that by doing so you’ll be held to a much higher standard than you would normally otherwise. As well as be aware that you have no authority over anyone and respect must be earned not expected. As long as it’s being used to support a character and story, not just to compare RP egos then I say go for it. But like Zaphius said, if you’re specifically looking for a guild you’ll have a much harder time of it if you’re going into it as an Archmage.

If you’re feeling confident about it, you could consider doing some public lecture events or arranging some sort of classes to teach. I know I personally have always been more than willing to accept somebody with a title of power if they’re doing things like hosting events and putting back into the community.

Thanks.

Fortunately the concept I am playing with leans into what you mentioned and I agree with you.

Quite rightly, the community should be wary of a newcomer claiming to be an archmage. The responsibility and potential power is unlikely to have been allowed without being carefully monitored. Luckily i have an answer for that.

Explosions.
Lots and lots of Explosions.

Absolutely play the Archmage you want to be. If Vargoth can be insane and be a member of The Six then you can be a little eccentric and not raise eyebrows. The more magically inclined characters in this HIGH FANTASY game the better I say.

Thank you. Got a little personal in character development to do before I’m bestowed the title again. But should be fun. Watch this space.
