People will flame me, people might agree with me, people might call me not good enough or w/e else but tbh i dont care.
As title says, archeology has ruined the experience so far for cataclysm and it hasnt even began yet. Still managed to annoy me even after clearing the same content for over 4 months. I was expecting something to be thrilled something to look forward but saddly it became like a job that i dont enjoy.
Some will start saying that noone is forsing you to do farm the epics, or get something relevant of close enough to your BIS from heroic or any other alternative that they can think of.
The problem though is not the items themselfs, its the time ive gambled on a flawed system that blizzard knew and knows till now with archeology. I didnt knew it, cataclysm was the only expansion i didnt experience at all so it was all new to me. i was hoping for something exciting or thrilling.
I was thrilled after 100 solves each time i pressed the button and pray, even with the bugs of missing items that closed races not to be completed.
I was excited after 250 solves , even then, hoping for the miracle of purple that will save me some time on farming preraid gear to play with my friends.
I was kinda bored after 500 solves.
I was desperate after 800 solves.
Now at 1100 total solves, even if i get the items (Shield enjoyer ofc only) i wont be happy. Because ive wasted around 100+ hours of my time, or if you dont like the word wasted, try gambled. Even tried the tinfoil strat " level a new char to 450, you get epic it seems after few solves", so i had to tried it. Stopped after 300 solves with 0 epics.
Blizzard is rushing really really hard through cataclysm as time has value for them, cause it does . They know that they had the biggest dip in subs during that expansion back in the day so they value the time they have to give us something new as soon as possible, yet they gamble with our time.
People might say its % keep farming. Ok then since its a % chance give us the numbers.
Show us that we are wrong and there is actually a fix persentange that can justify you DEAFENING SILENCE for over 2 weeks in the matter while 100s of posts and replays exist in EU and US forums. Show me that im completely unlucky after 1300 solves while your system works perfectly.
All i can say im already dissappointed in a expansion that i was looking forward to play since ive never experienced before, before the expansion even started. And that Blizzard this isnt the games fault or the percentages or chances or luck, is your teams and developers fault. You ruined if for me, and im pretty sure for a lot of people considering the amounts of posts that exists, or videos uploading every day about your game.
On the announcement of the game you said #somechanges. #Somechanges reffered only to the ingame shop to sell us mounts??

There are 2 options, 1) skip archeology and enjoy cata once it gets released and 2) dig 10hours a day for 3 weeks and get burned out before cata even releases.

The archaeology system may even be flawed but noone forces you to parttake in it.

Don’t wanna be that guy but in-game shop selling mounts started in OG Wrath. So no probably not. Dunno what they’ll do as the content progresses though. In Wrath it effectively boiled down to Titan Rune. Maybe they’ll want to mess with that idea again? Hell knows

) I don’t know how you can keep doing this to yourself.
The only people this can have any value to are those who get paid to play the game or those who are completely in love and devoted to the game.
100 hours is a lot of time, that’s two weeks paid work

I dont think its flawed in the sense that its working how they wanted it too, making people stay in game for substantially longer than they would have without this time sink.
This is how I understand it (could be wrong)
If its 1/100 chance each time you attempt a solve
that means statistically you may find it 13 times in your 1300 attempts
Those are not good odds for any spartan

In cata they have catch up dungeons with every content patch already anyways, with za and zg between first and second tiers, and then the hour of twilight dungeons for the final tier, so there is really no need for titan rune type system for cata.
There was no need for it in Wrath Either especially since Alpha Dropped T7 10man Gear when everyone demanded BiS to take on Ulduar and most of EoC gear was rather bad and took forever to grind for few noteworthy pieces. And then Phase 3 and 4 also came with Dungeon sets to let you catch up but it didn’t stop Blizz for Making Betas and Gammas (and gammas didn’t even drop better gear than Beta, they just dropped more)
Just got the shield after like 550 solves… and it’s useless for me… I wanted the sword or the staff.
Why does the shield have higher chance to appear than the sword and the staff? Why is the pet locked at 525? Just why…

The worst part is that none of this is the “classic cata experience”.
In cata originally the archaeology system launched at the same time as dungeons, raids and everything else so players had a choice with their time. Most went digging very sparingly because why would you play the lottery with rewards when they’re freely available in dungeons and raids.
The way they handled this prepatch and threw some big ticket items available in this vague, unexplained rng system and gave players 3 weeks to find them to see if they’ll start the next expansion with a significant advantage over everyone else is insane.

This is false by the way. Biggest dip was Shadowlands.
But if we talking closer around the OG dip, MoP & WoD had the biggest dips, not Cataclysm. There are pictures when Blizz still shared their sub numbers & Cata did not lose the most.
Weren’t the epics always there though? I do agree though that even if they existed they should have locked them to Cataclysm levels of Archeology and not Wrath one.
In original Cata archealogy as whole wasn’t in the pre-patch, it was only enabled when Cata actually launched.
Some of you will laugh but I’ve cancelled my sub over this prepatch and especially because of archeology. I’m still trying for the staff till release but I’m not going 8+ hours a day anymore. I can’t enjoy old content that I’ve played in my school life already if I can’t minmax it. I don’t necessarily need to play WoW at this state of pissening anymore, back to CS2 and PUBG.

-Dungeons
-Raids
-Achievements
-Communicating with other players
Things I won’t be doing without the sword:
-Raiding, because pre-raid bis is mandatory
so freaking funny ty dude
As with effectively everything BiS usually have replacements to account for availability. Unless you’re in a parsing min-maxing guild that counts every second spent in a raid.

While I think it’s important to voice concerns and criticism where it’s deserved, I’d say it also falls upon each individual to hold themselves accountable when they start dabbling in addictive thinking/behavioral patterns.
Blizzard might make appropiate changes, but that won’t change the time already spent, nor the negative feelings associated with it.
