I’ve not played WoW consistently for a long time (probably WoD or MoP times) so forgive the question…
But these days, are most specs viable? Dungeons, Raids, M+
I’m not looking to end game raid and need every inch of DPS, but I want to be able to pull my weight in dungeons etc.
There was a time where you had to go one spec for say mage to be viable.
I like the simplicity of frost mage for example, but don’t want to make that my first level 70 character only to realise Frost is a bit rubbish, and you have to go Arcane of Fire.
I understand some classes/specs will always be favourite, I could play Affliction warlock and frost mage to same standard and one will always beat the other etc, but for general play, are most specs kept viable these days?
However, pandas and vulpera are not viable in any way shape or form, in any class, no matter what anyone says, ever. Even if the metrics say they are, they aren’t.
This is 110% true and in no way based on opinions, just facts
Yes they are.
But you may as well act like they aren’t.
I know it’d be good to just play the spec you enjoy but once you try to do any meaningful group content in most cases you can say goodbye to that spec and be forced to play the “best” one with the “best” talents.
As far as normal gameplay is concerned, all specs work fine.
There may be some snobs in hardcore content though. By “hardcore” I mean content where the players do not tolerate anything less than the best possible outcome.
It is nothing like the Vanilla Boomkins for example
Someone’s jealous that Vulpera are a better fit for the Horde and at the same time are a lot fluffier and cuter than the original rig.
With that out of the way:
All specs are viable in a sense that they can all perform their basic functionality. All tanks can tank, all healers can heal the content and all DPS can stand in fire and die to avoidable damage in varying degrees.
However, there are noticeable differences when it comes to higher level play, e.g. pushing for high M+ keys or Mythic raiding. A Resto Druid completely outclasses a Mistweaver Monk or Disc Priest for example. For low to mid keys this will most likely have very little impact. But keep in mind that a lot of people will still try to get meta specs into their groups, so you might have a harder time finding groups as a Mistweaver if the community perception is that they “suck”.
If you have a circle of friends to play with I wouldn’t worry however. If you’re not dependant on strangers then you can play whichever spec is most fun to you.
All specs are good , play what u enjoy , even in the end game .
Most players are slaves to the meta , which has nothing to do with the classes it’s self .
If u check the numbers you will see there are plenty of unpopular specs or not S tier specs in the 2% of the end game .
I think you understand as well there is always an outlier, but there isn’t a single spec where you’ll just be outright rendered useless. As long as you’re playing decently, and following your rotation there’s not much that can go wrong.
All specs are viable, but the only viable Alliance races are Dwarfs, Gnomes, Night Elves, Dark Iron Dwarfs, and Mechagnomes. For Horde you have only Trolls, Tauren, and Highmountain Tauren. And all Pandaren are fine. Everything else is rubbish.
