Are boxes from coins actually killing regular mats farming?

Hey,

First of all I have a single character (no alt on SOD this time and don’t plan any), I’m Enchanter and Tailor, so either way materials are usually very easy to get for me (especially clothes) since I mostly just need to do a couple of dungeons.

Then I don’t feel like my professions management has dramaticaly changed from usual with phase 4.

But I’m thinking about the players that usually gold farm mats (herbs, ores and so on), as well as crafters (arcanites bars, etc), who have to deal now with all the players that can get their hands on of valuable ressources, usually earned through specific professions, just by handing coins.

Basically today I made 400g just by selling herbs (black lotus, etc) and others stuff I shouldn’t by able to have that easily. All with coins.

I’m not saying I don’t like having gold.

I’m saying I’m earning gold way too easily and I feel it’s quiet unfair for the mats farmers who dedicated time and ressources to level up their profession (both gathering and crafting) to access these materials.

Not mentionning the even more harsh competition on the AH to sell these ressources.

(Yes, farming coins is still farming, in a way.)

What do you folks think about this ?

I don’t see the problem? One day of dailies pays for a weeks worth of consumables.

I’m not worried about wiping because a wipe doesn’t cost me 50g in potions any more. Also, all gathered get twice as many materials as before, so they still get the same amount of gold per node; it just costs us less for the completed pieces. In this case: potions.

The incursion gold and reel materials are why Berny stopped farming anything.

I also basicly just play my main (do have a few alts though but I dont use them for farming ether) I have BS and Mining as my professions and man have the coin boxes been a nice little bonus to me, some of the things it gives are rather bad other things have been great im sure that if someone actually went farming for the more expensive mats they would make more money and quicker than someone like me who just get the boxes every so often.

The best thing with the boxes is that they can give things like winter squids and therefore breaks the monopoly some people would have otherwise have had.

Not sure this is really the main point, since for a player pov there is little reason to complain about earning gold even faster or get potions even easier.

The beneficial effect is kinda obvious: easier/faster = more time to do other things. I think we all got that.

My concerns are how this new mechanic can influence the gold making in general, the point to even have gathering ressources professions and how this issue might be emptying usual farming zones.

I feel like I could basically be an alchemist, but never had to gather herbs and barely buy anything from the AH, but still gather enough stocks to craft both potions and flaks for the whole phase 4 (and the upcoming ones).

Didn’t read the whole SOD note intention. But I’m well aware this isn’t “Classic” and that we are currently discovering/testing new things through this version of the game.

But I guess there must be a balance in everything.

When new features kinda turn others obsolete (more or so), like you don’t really have to rely on others work (on a MMO !!) and have a particular profession, well isn’t it fair to assume to balance isn’t right ? (not saying it has ever been).

Once again, my POV.

It’s just alternative way to make gold. Yes, running dungeons (when u dont need anything except of coins ) is also spending time for FARM, just other way. And its gph is less then any traditional farm (in average you get less then 10 gold from the box / its not so much, if you get avg 15-20 coins 3-4 boxes/h, less then 30-40gph). Its not “free” gold, its gold you also spend time for, and if u need only those coins from dungeon, and nothing else, its not very effective farm compared to others, so i dont see any problems here.

And it opens up to have geared people run dungeons they do not need anything from. Personally i’ve always found it a bit fun to just jump into a dungeon and clear it as a tank, and knowing that i’ll end up gaining something from it makes me feel i got an incentive to do so.

Coins going forward really should continue being used. Adding 1-2 items usable by each class and new materials as next phase of raiding comes out (BWL) will continue this trend in a positive way.

well its like… on one hand you can’t sell a box for coins and have it drop crap mats cus then you make sure that player will just never buy those boxes again, as he is very likely going to be salty about getting ‘scammed’ by the droprate, and you also can’t have them drop too many high tier mats because that’s gonna cause inflation (actually deflation due to higher supply vs. demand).

what we are seeing with the materials right now is big deflation.
the flasks are at an all time low due to recipes being on the tarnished real vendor + the fact the boxes you can buy from that very same vendor dropping generous amounts of black lotus.

combine that with transmutation perk for alchemists (always 2x flask or more from craft) and before you know it you’ll have 10-15g flasks because the supply is far outweighing the demand.

the tarnished real vendor in general is far too generous in my honest opinion.

i decided to make hand of rag overnight because i figured that if i can’t roll on deathbringer for my offspec (enh dps) i can just make hand of rag instead and meme a bit.

compared to when i farmed the mats for it in 2019 it was a total joke.
i farmed for 3 months to afford the mats back then.
this time?

2 days.

2 god damn days and i got 8 sulfuron ingots, 10 lava cores, 10 fiery cores, 20 dark iron bars, 10 blood of the mountain, 25 essence of fire and about 14 arcanite bars.
i’ve got all the materials i need except for the arcanite bars, which are also going down in price and i got 3 alts that can get me a minimum of 6x arcanite bars (up to 15x if i get really lucky) every 2 days, so this last step should be done and over with before my next raid lol.

i even got a crafter whom i helped get to 300/300 by buying thorium out of my own pocket and got the recipe for him, and it cost me a total of 80g which will probably be refunded by guild bank.

going from months to literally the span of a week to craft the best weapon in the game… like lul.

the “itS SeASonAL BrO” thing is going way too far imo.

basically, if you weren’t quick witted when MC first released and sold all your fiery/lava cores and other such materials for gold, you are now screwed for the rest of the phase because they are only going to tank in price from hereon out.

but hey, don’t let that stop the devs from putting all the high value stuff on a vendor that sells it for pennies kekw.

even if you don’t buy the boxes, the lotuses are actually so cheap right now you can make pure profit just buying them and crafting flasks.

i entered scholo with 18 lotus and i came out with 51 flasks of supreme power.
lotus =35g
flask=30g (higher on reset day)

it doesn’t take a math professor to work out how insane these gains are.

dunno what its like on your server, but based on what its like on mine you definitely do not want to spend reals on boxes.

buy cores and sell them.

its guaranteed profit vs. a gamble.
at least for another week or so, and if people level up alts they’ll need FR gear which means the prices can go back up depending on how popular alts are.

but be fast, the longer you wait the less profitable cores will be, because everyone is doing this in tandem with less and less people needing to craft gear.
