although everyone uses them , it cannot be denied it makes the game so much easier, but is easier better?. should addons that impact gameplay be allowed.
This is a discussion not a rant as i use both still but am currently imaging how pve would work without them
They’re negative for the game because Blizz designs endgame content around using them. It is almost impossible to kill N’zoth without tracking creeping anguish CD. While CD tracking is fine for a boss fight, ideally you’d want the CD displayed officially by Blizz, so you know you have to keep an eye on it.
I think the game is overall more interesting without them, but I still use them because I can’t bring down my entire team just to make things slightly more challenging for myself.
The amount of focus and mind counting you need to do without them is a bit too much for a game.
Well, the encounters are certainly made with these addons in mind, or at least DBM, but i don’t mind it. If we would get encounters that can be done without DBM, that would be pretty close to Classic encounters in difficulty which is a no thanks from me.
As a mythic raider, and pretending they weren’t mandatory in progress guilds, I think they are really usefull. As a main tnak I need to track a lot of things and it isn’t possible without these addons. The main issue would be mechanic timers. I tend to know them by heard after some time but when we progress, I have to plan ahead. It might be less important for a other classes but as a DK, with my mobility it’s better to start moving before it is too late and pool runing power before I take a lot of damage otherwise i’d just die.
After several pulls I no longer need to check mechanic timers and know when it will happen but I still have to track my own cds and it is way too small on Blizzard UI for my bad sight without weak auras.
Edit: i think some healers also need to plan ahead when there will be big unavoidable damage on the raid.
Why you do need to imagine that if you can just look at early TBC?
And btw, encounters are much harder nowadays then they used to be.
Ever since wotlk mechanics evolve more and more.
And honestly, The whole wow raiding scene is stinky at best.
XD
Depends on what kind of PVE.
If you mean top tier mythic raiding or very high keys, no its not doable without them.
This probably.
Making them an optional feature leaves poor new players out of the equality of opportunity
But players with their addons take it so personally i doubt they are ready to part ways with their wheelchair
No
Not really
Thanks to these addons, players basically forgot how to play without them and the addons actually made them worse players who completly rely on these things… and without? Can’t even/won’t even step out the fire…
And:
They don’t make the game easier. That can be denied.
Blizzard balance raid bosses and more with the knowledge they exist. Because of this the difficulty their set at includes a requirement for DBM
The reason fights now have 40 mechanics is to ensure content can’t be trivialised with those add-ons and the reason alot of DoT classes have uneven dot durations is to ensure WA can’t make them easier.
They are bad for the game. Because it basically forced these add-ons as a requirement to participate you litterally would be sabotaging yourself if you were to do content without them.
So yeah a game being developed surrounding third party programs isn’t exactly good. But I wouldn’t say it damages them all that much
Not a fan of them being a requirement either, so in that sense I’d consider them a negative. But I wouldn’t really know how to design bossfights with any kind of challenge without. Maybe with emotes “boss inhales deeply” so you know something will happen or they should use cones more /shrug
But I’ve never been a fan of watching timers anyway.
FFXIV higgh tier raiding(No addons) vs wows high tier raiding involve two comploetely different methods of raiding.
Blizzard is to lazy to adept and enforce,.
Pretty much. The game lacks the choreography needed for fights to be reasonably difficult to keep track of without DBM and other mechanics trackers.
FFXIV does give the advantage of being able to resurrect players more than a handful of times. Also there is the 3 second server tick rate…
I wouldnt call wow’s server tickrate to be good either… and I dont have that problem.
I was talking designwise and you justmarking more combat ress but thats not reason why FFXIV high tier raiding is properly executed
The in-game UI and heads-up during boss fights is plenty to raid Normal and Heroic. Sure, I felt like I had to use them when raiding Mythic, but I wouldn’t say at all it’s a requirement.
I don’t mind it’s there, but I also don’t feel like it’s nessicary just to do normal raiding or play the game. I prefer to play without DBM and the likes.
The reason we have “40 mechanics” is because the game has gotten more fast paced, and even then we are really just dealing with 1-5 mechanics max for each role per phase.
There are just things that can not be done without a perfect timer, like cragmaw tantrum. You have to start preparing 6-7 seconds before it starts hitting, as healer.
I don’t understand how it makes people “worse”. Worse than what?
For me being able to track a mechanic timer help us focus on other things, and I’m talking about mythic progress where you have players dying for really small mistakes, bad coordination with the others or healers loosing control because there is too much things going on, which isn’t the case in HC or mythic relcear where addons aren’t that much needed.
These addons allow bosses to be actually hard and challenging, without them every boss would be like classic bosses, with a grand total of one ability or just tank and spank. No thanks.
