Are eclipses too punishing?

Hello guys,

Switched from Resto to Balance for this season. I played for 2-3 weeks, so I don’t have a lot of experience of the spec, but I feel that the Eclipses mechanic feels awkward and also punishing. I want to know if it’s just me because I’m new to the spec or others feel the same.

Why does it feel awkward?
Well simply because I have to cast a single target spell to boost one of my aoe spells and vice versa. It feels that there is a lot of build up for AOE, cast sunfire(applies to all targets), then moonfire which only applies to maximum of 2 targets(so I have to cast it two times or more if the mob pack is bigger). Then cast two Wraths to enter the Lunar Eclipse and start my AOE journey. The problem is that all this buildup is for nothing if the mobs die too fast.

Why do I think the current Eclipses are too punishing?
I feel that there are important seconds wasted on spells you should not cast. There is a pack of 6 mobs and I am busy casting a single target spell so I can do decent AOE damage.

Another issue is that you can enter in the wrong eclipse. It happens so many times that I am paying too much attention to the boss encounter and I don’t see that my eclipse ended, so I’m there spamming Wrath and go into Lunar Eclipse, reducing my single target damage.
Another problem is that I cannot cancel the current eclipse in case I messed up and switch to the other.

I have two suggestions to make:

  1. Let us go into both eclipses or allow us to cancel the current eclipse.
  2. Make the Eclipses like paladin’s auras. Off the gcd, so we can choose the buff depending on the fight.

What are your thoughts fellow druids?

yea and now imagine the sl version where you had to enter lunar then solar then lunar and so on.
But still eclipse is just an awful system that should never have returned. Completely killed the spec for me.

its been a trash system ever since its implemented kinda like mages rune of power and it oinly took them 10 years to remove that talent. IT doesnt even really fit the druid fantasy like wherea re all the nature themed stuff, these days its only about the sun and the moon for osme reason.

i mean is that so much better cast the opposite spell to enter the eclipse you want and on top of that you need to dot all mops with moon/sunfire. the. you can start doing damage. But until then everything is already dead :rofl:

better would be kill eclipse and just cast the spell you want. easy rotation keep it simple

Hi, browsing the druid to see how are people feeling about it, so sorry for budging in.

This is one of the main reasons keeping me from playing druid.
I love nature and love nature themed classes but:

  • feral is annoying to play; I mean, on top of managing 2 resources you also have to keep in mind every bleed and other effects applied on targets;
  • balance has this eclipse system which never made any sense, the moonkin form is ugly as it makes 0 sense since I never seen a major character using it and and lastly it doesn’t feel like a druid with most of the abilities being arcane or sun based;

And to go off the rail more
In my eyes a balance druid, for damage, could use abilities such as:

  • Force of Nature, could be on a low cooldown (let’s say 15-20 secs) to be used as an active ability; when treants are active Force of Nature should make treants focus on the target; like for Storm, earth and fire from windwalker monks.
  • Hurricane, which could work like Blizzard/Reign of Fire;
  • Wild mushroom is nice;
  • Wrath which should be green like the original version;
  • Moonfire can be accepted;
  • Entangling Roots which could actual damage the target; like in Warcraft 3 (it’s source)
  • Bugs swarm which deals DOT
  • Turn into a bear (or an ancient tree) for a defensive cooldown, instead of that barkskin

There are quite a lot of nature abilities which they can bake into the spec which would make more sense thematically and from lore perspective.

A lot of this is basicallyt winding Balance back to an earlier form, which I think was better, but WoW wont do, theyve repeatedly said they wont go backwards.

The spec needs a lot of this Astral stuff ripped out, i get moonkin/arcane/Elune ties but theyve taken this sun and moon and pushed it way to far, invented astral and based the entire spec around eclipse/starsurge leaving its core underpowered and as filler.

I miss teh days of swarm, mushrooms, hurricane and properly druid like nature spells, balance was then its tie to Elune (as moonkins were honoured beasts) and it fit with starfire and moonfire… but Blizz insistance on pushing the eclipse model further and further, and starfall/starsurge sitting in middle of it all is just damaging to the spec.

Also, stat rebalances and talent rewrites every few months are starting to really put me off the game, BiS that you farm for gets changed each time, output constantly pushed about, and its never balanced, its fiddling for the sake of seeming to do something while still ignoring the core issues.

If Blizz idea of keeping game active is to make re-farming old content to get items ive previous discarded because theyve change talents and stat values yet again… then thats not my idea of adding content, thats just pushing players away.
