Are FPS drops around major cities normal?/ DX11 vs DX12 performance difference

This is kinda a double question but I was just wondering if its normal for my game to drop fps consistently around cities, this mainly started in Dragonflight and ever since ive had FPS drops from 116 down to 80s or sometimes even 60s. This happens on both DX11 and DX12.
Was also wondering about the performance difference between the two in other scenarios, as I used to just use DX11, as (for me atleast) it was the most stable FPS wise. But ever since updating my drivers to 566.14 the FPS on dx11 seems to be alot worse in some areas, like in Nightfall Sanctum where my FPS was nearly halfed, anyone else have that happen to them? I’ve already ran DDU again so it should not be a driver conflict issue, should I just stick to DX12? How is the FPS Stability on it?

Sorry if this post seems kinda rambly, Just wanted to make sure my performance is usual or if I might need to DDU again or downgrade my drivers.

PC specs:
3090
5800x3d
32gb ddr4 3600mhz ram
game installed on SSD

Yes. It depends on the server population though. The more people are around you the lower your FPS will be.
Also reducing draw distance and environmental details can give you a big FPS boost there.
I would not recommend going above 8, even on high-end systems except maybe the 9800X3D.
I’m on a 5800X3D too and got both settings at 7, since they are heavy on the CPU and WoW is mostly CPU limited (in raids, citites etc. anyways).

The difference for me in Dornogoal between 7 and 10 can be like 20 FPS at times.

Oh and btw DX12 should always perform better for Nvidia in WoW, my 2070S did and my 4090 does too.
DX12 has less CPU-overhead.

Ah so theres not much I can do on my end to fix that? and thanks for letting me know, this wouldve annoyed me for a while trying to figure out why only around cities it was tanking so hard, and why the fps was different each time

How is the framerate stability for you on DX12? the only reason I used to use DX11 was just because I thought it was more fps stable, but if it isnt I might as well just swap over to DX12.
I also saw a pretty big FPS, GPU core clock and GPU usage difference between the two when swapping between them in a delve, (Nightfall Sanctum) DX11 seems to run the GPU at boost clock (1950mhz) around 60ish whilst maxing out the GPU core, whereas DX12 only ran at about 1200mhz, and doesnt max out the GPU usage and ran at max framerate, I can’t remember if was like this before I updated drivers, or if the new driver is causing the issue, I do see that other people have had FPS issues within the same delve though, although swapping between the two in dornogal had no similar effect, So I might have to test different areas to see which also have the FPS difference

Thanks for your help and sorry for asking more questions, performance issues like these just nag at my mind until im able to fix them

Yeah i totally get it, i’m very annoyed by performance issues too

DX11 just runs worse so it’s not worth it for me but the main reason to use 12 is because of G-sync.
G-sync does not work for me in DX11 in WoW.
