I finally finished to level as frost DK. This is my third lvl 120 after enhance shaman and sub rogue. I could not not notice that the number of deaths I have gone through during my levelling process (especially in the range 118-120) has been more than probably the sum of shaman and rogue together!!! Soloing elite mobs for isntance has been a nightmare at times and when surrounded by 4-5 mobs I have had no escape. I don’t remember it being so tough with the other classes. Is it just my experience or is there anything real in this?
Well, you have limited healing and kiting capabilities, so your only option is to brainlessly smash your buttons and trying to kill the enemies before they get you. So yeah, you could say that DK’s are squishy, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that just because we aren’t particularly good at leveling (even though we don’t really shine in that many other areas either).
You could obviously also spec to blood if you’re having issues, since tank specs have it easy while leveling. Then you at least won’t die to a swarm of mobs or some random elites.
The frost dk is just in an abysmal state right now.
Not only is it the softest spec in the entire game but it also provides little utility and support capabilities as well as giving absoloutley no options to work around this crippling flaw, It only gets worse when we talk about how its damage is rather pathetic for these capabilities and naturally does not have any reasonable mobility to make up for it all, then on top of all this, the healing you have can be dodged/parried etc despite costing half your resource bar.
Oh good lord and i am not even finished yet, as if having none of the above was not bad enough, you are also entirely reliant on a random number generator to tell you wether you can do full damage, wether you can even do damage in the first place and wether you can even defend yourself in a fight, and no it is not the kind of RNG that is OP or weak, your scale goes from extreme weak to mediocre.
Then to make matters worse as if all this wasn’t enough, you don’t even have your own theme, you are not a frost dk, you do not excel at slowing, you do not excell at immobilising, you don’t even excel at freezing in any form, you can’t even raise dead to aid you in combat.
It is as I said a while ago, it is going to take far more than mere numbers and minor capabilities in order to fix frost death knight at this point, they have simply brought it too far down the destructive path they started in cataclysm, it is beyond redemption now.
stack versatility, u will see a big diference in survival and dmg
forget pve stats, versa is ur friend in pvp
plus dont take deathpact
I am actually talkin PvE here
oh, then i dont really know, dont really seem any squishiness
edit: i am using permafrost talent so that might be it
Permafrost is excellent vs casters as it stacks up while you interrupt them.
However when fighting leather wearers it is extremely weak as they constantly dodge your attacks.
I don’t know. I keep dying really. Maybe I don’t know how to use the class but I really have no idea how to escape when it gets too tough. I hope that the death strike buff will give me some more survivability now.
The answer to this is that you can’t use the class because there was no way to use the class since BFA launched, your entire toughness is now centred around a talent that can only be used in PvP, an unnecesary one by the way as it is doing what horn of winter should be doing.
I play UH but still the point is valid.
We have no way of avoiding fights and we struggle to win fights.
I restarted my subscription because I saw on the PTR that the new traits are awesome, but when 8.1 came to Live … they sucked becasue the devs were afraid they would be overpowered. So I stopped my subscription, gg blizzard you got more money from me.
I didn’t see them doing this for the rogue that was overpowered for 2 months. I think the Universe would collapse into another singularity if the DK is slightly overpowered.
i am just returning to game and was thinking to go frost dk and really don’t andurstand the qq. if looking warcraft logs isn’t frost dk like top tier dps in pve?
most of the complains come from pvp
in pve DKs problems arent dmg, but lack of utility.
for example, if frost still had the aoe stun talent or unh defile had reduced CD for spamming aoe slows u would see way more DKs in m+. at this point other classes bring the above utility that dks lack
If i recall, general dk was actually the lowest dps on average.
In PvE, i do find myself slightly useful, but that has to do with the massive AoE damage i can dish out thanks to Obliteration and Frostscyte. Survivability is OK, but my mobility is low. Had times where i had to run to certain spots, where i’ve already used it before the same mechanic.
PvP is another story however, as i’ve actually manage to hold my own against up to two people, thanks to transfusion and other clever use of abilities.
However my damage is very…lacking compared to what other class can and will deliver.
Best example i have of this was when i recently went up against a survival hunter and just noticed my health being melted away, with Lichborne up and had to panic death strike and then transfusion just to survive. I died and read the logs:
Mongoose Bite hit you for ~11500
Then looked at my own damage and:
Obliterate hit (hunter) for ~7000 (Critical)
Obliterate hit (hunter) for ~3500 (Critical)
This was during Pillar of Frost, with my gladiatior trinket procced and str on use trinket activated. The hunter didn’t have a single defensive on. Given that Obliteration talent allows me to mash someone to pieces, getting a minimum of 5+ Obliterates in before it goes off, this was quite a surprise to me.
The reason they seemed good on the ptr but sucked on live is because those traits were bugged and some streamers and youtubers were treating them as being correct.
There was one instance where one of them said one trait, helchains i think, was good because it was increasing their dps by over 10000/20000 on 4 targets with 1 point yet the trait clearly stated it was supposed to be doing 600 damage each second.
600 x 4 = 2400dps normal, 4800 dps crit.
It is mathematically impossible for that trait to have increased the damage by that much in it’s intended effect even when critting every single hit.
I was mostly talking about Magus of the dead not Hellchains.
That would have been nice, but with the decreased DPS and duration it’s far less impactful than the RNG ones.
Other then accidentally pulling to much…I haven’t felt like frost is squishy, been playing it for like…3 years straight lol.
Against demon hunters in PvP I feel like squishy mashed potatoe yes but in PvE, no not really.
