We do exist, but they often confuse us with furniture, minipets and some random scrap an engineer left behind. We do have the advantage that we are not edible, so the other races don’t want to cook us was they do with our fleshy cousins.
I think it is just the lack of customization possibilities that keep them from being more popular, atleast to get to gnome levels of popularity.
They need a lot more options, like having the option to have more fleshy bits, or less fleshy bits, a lot more variation in mechanical parts and the sort.
Giving them the option to wear gear pieces like pants would help a lot, as from what I have seen their limbs eat the sleeves of any type of clothing they want to wear.
Alternatively they may just be waiting for order 66 from M.O.T.H.E.R. To begin going full terminator mode on Azeroth.
I agree, as a long term Gnome fan I character changed to Mechagnome and loved it. But after a while I missed transmoging legs, hands and feet. I tried to develop the skills to tie shoe laces, use a belt and fit on a glove but it was beyond my technologically advanced mind. The only option was to de-evolve back to an ordinary Gnome.
I would re-embrace the wired life if I could transmog though. I’m hoping for a future change.

While I know this is a necrothread being raised from the dead, the comments here have made me laugh my head off.
Still, I’d still play one if they didn’t wear literal diapers instead of pants. I want pants darn it. PANTS. Not those skinny little toothpick legs I think could be taken out by an axe.
Would you? I think now that we’ve got the earthen, mechagnomes just became even more irrelevant. Earthen are like their cooler older cousins; they do the same “machine talk” but without being silly and actually look cool.
Why would anyone not wanting to play a “fleshy” class still go for a mechagnome now that we have "mecha"dwaves?

People don’t enjoy playing as a midget with prosthetics.
I’ve honestly never seen one as a playable character. In all honesty the choices for some of the Allied Races are rather baffling. Rather than waste precious time, energy and resources on extreme niches that the vast majority of players are never going to engage with the efforts should instead be spent on creating new options that have been heavily requested or are cool enough to have some mainstream appeal.
If you add more elves there will be even less dyperbabies and other races as well.
There’s 2 mechagnome mains in my guild so they’re around. They get a lot of abuse for it though.
