Okay, so i'm somewhat new to the game, been on and off since MoP, never even touched end game content.
decided to sit down for the time i have to devote some real work to this game, so far it's been great, been loving exploring, mining, dying, and speccing into different types of magic.
i had a level 30 gnome fire mage at first that was landing over 1k crit damage without a problem
but now, i currently have a level 44 Pandaren fire mage doing half the damage the gnome did.
are Pandarens just naturally weak at being mages?
You had that gnome week ago or in MOP time ? if than than answer is Stat squish.

How long back was your mage gnome? There could be plenty of changes since then.
Both gnome and panda mages have their unique assets to bring in PvP and PvE for a mage but none of that changes their damage that drastically.

Middle of Legion time, so a fair time ago.
Literally all races racials are within 1% of each other, being a pandaren mage or a gnome mage shouldn't make a difference to your damage.
You have your answer there, if your gnome mage was played during legion, it was pre-squish before the damage and health values of everything was made lower.

Ahh, so i just played a gnome at a better time then, and a Pandaren at a worse time
makes sense.
Well, gnomes have 3% haste and 5% mana more, so probably are better mages.

In that regard, Pandarens are actually the best, because they can have 1% in any stat they wish by doubling their food bonus.
And Pandarens can eat food in Arenas, which means they can have +2% instead of +1% total in that environment specifically.
