Lately, I’ve been wondering if there are even any collectors left playing WoW.
I don’t mean people who grab a few mounts or toys here and there, rather, I’m talking about the players who used to go after “everything”: mounts, pets, toys, achievements, titles, all of it. The ones who tried to 100% the game just because they loved the idea of finishing things, no matter how long it took.
But these days it feels like the game doesn’t really support that kind of play anymore. Stuff like the new Void-Scarred Lynx (a completely casual recolor) has such a low drop rate that it feels pointless even if you have a ton of alts, and if you push through, it will burn you out for weeks. Rep grinds are slower, and there’s way more RNG instead of clear goals you can work toward.
I’ve also been looking at Dataforazeroth, and it really looks like a lot of people at the top have just… stopped. Achievement and mount farming have dropped off a ton over the past couple of years. It’s like people just gave up trying because the system doesn’t respect the time they put in anymore, which was a common argument pre-DF, and it seems to be making a comeback now during TWW.
The sad thing is, when I bring this up, the few responses I get are usually just shrugs (just farm it lol), or even downvotes (thanks Wowhead), like collecting doesn’t matter anymore unless it has anything to do with raiding or M+. I don’t know, it just feels like something special has kind of faded away.
So, yeah, I just wanted to ask:
Are there still true collectors or completionists out there? Or has that part of the community mostly disappeared?
I mean, judging by the forum and the activity on Wowhead under latest achievements, mounts, etc., it seems to be indicating that at least 90% of the player base is here purely for raiding and M+ now. But perhaps that is just my uneducated guess.
