Speaking from my heart, it’s just in my nature to be slower. Since I started pvp, this is what I struggle with the most. When I have to make a decision on surviving big spells sometimes I end up not being able to press a defensive cd, my positioning and kiting skills are bad too but they are even worse when I have these few seconds to make a decision when I need to save myself or when I need to kill the enemy. I also often find myself messing up rotation with certain classes when I need to act fast.
Don’t give up on your PVP dreams, man.
First, practice matters a lot. It makes you do your DPS rotation without even thinking, so you can focus on other stuff during match.
Second, often times what you perceive as someone’s fast reflexes, is someone’s ability to predict moves of their enemies and their teammates. “Hmm, enemy just CCed my healer and I see their burst CDs are available, I wonder what happens next”. With practice and good match awareness, you too, will be able to predict swaps, CC’s, and other fun stuff.
Third, you need weakauras addon to really get anywhere in PVP, basically for said awareness. Not saying it’s ideal, but it is what it is.
Good luck and don’t get frustrated
Demo, its whole design still is hard casting various things. You can just stand and cast. Once your fluent in standing still and cast you start figuring out when to port and gate but the gameplay still remain the same, stand and cast. Theres more than plenty time to look around and sip coffee while hard casting your entire spellbook as gameplay on it, I would say demo for this topics question
Unless you meet a dh and get slaughtered in seconds regardless of you’re class being 'tanky’.
Honestly I don’t think slow and strategic is present in pvp right now… It’s all very bursty and fast unfortunately…
I too enjoyed being able to plan out my game plan and not just spamming whatever buttons that light up.
ah thats just the game atm, everyone gets slaughtered by dh
op asked for slow ranged class and i think demo is one as all it does is hard cast everything, you cant play demo “fast” its virtually impossible. if you play mage then you can play fast and explosive style ultra aggro but on demo its not possible if whole spell book is hard cast. sure its not very enjoyable in the current meta to pull off but it fits the bill on topics question of slow ranged, its the most slow paced compared to pretty much everything else
sipping coffee and hard casting entire spell book while swarms of ppl surround it is the demo/sp life
As a player who recently got into pvp, I went through a lot of pessimistic comments about how arenas and SS are meta heavy and lack balance as well as them being described as not new player friendly. I like to see some positivity and encouragement since it’s not expected to suddenly gain knowledge about the game environment. Maybe the frustration for me came because of the fact that my experience as a player would still be little compared to that of players who played WoW for years.
WoW is less about reacting to situations on the fly, but more about knowing what’s gonna happen next and planning on what to do, when that situation occurs. You don’t rly need to become faster at reacting, you need to practice and become more knowledgable, so you can compensate for your slow reaction time, by being ahead of the situation.
Every single player has multiple weaknesses, even at the very top of the ladder. You need to figure out your strengths, play around them and try to compensate for your weaknesses as much as possible. Obviously you can improve your reactions to a certain extent, but becoming more knowledgable and experienced is gonna be easier and more effective, I’d say.
You honestly don’t need lightning fast reactions for WoW PvP. Defo less so than for shooters and MOBAs, hence you rarely see WoW players talking about PC specs, fps, etc., unlike in those other game categories, where these factors are gonna matter far more. It got a bit worse now and especially during SL, with all the modifiers being able to kill ppl in a global or two from 100-0, but even those situations are very scripted for the most part, they just require the scripts to be executed faster.
Beast Mastery hunter sounds like a perfect fit for you.
Demo Warlock is close, but BM hunter is probably easier. Pet stun, trap healer, ocassionally interrupt people and press feign death. That’s the whole spec. Rest is spamming a 3 button damage rotation and auto winning against people with weak CPU’s or bad UI nameplate configuration
BM hunter is high APM, i would avoid that …
- i would suggest Dev/aug evoker or Destro/demo warlock
you only really cast on procs and for the most part APM is low
