(hugs) Jack is fine, thanks so much for your concern.
Hopefully tolerance will extend to all people, and because of the reactions the kids had to you, that you have kindly shared, I know you are a lovely person.
Kids know, with an innate instinct for goodness, kindness
people can sometimes be jerks. cant say what disability i have, but i can say ive dealt with this myself. But there are much more kindness in the world than ignorance.
idk about the love stuff, think they are just lonely. i just did my job there. so them bein like that was such a surprise. thats why i think theyre marvelous ppl, dont even need to do much for them to that nice
As my Mentor used to say, bad shouts, good is quiet, we always hear about the bad, not really about the good as it usually happens quietly and unobtrusively.
However I am sorry that your yourself have been subject to this (hugs)
The White Rose = Mature Language
The Black Rose = Mature Language
The Pink Rose = Accepted
I happen to work as a software engineer myself, and I know the posibilities with AI nowadays. It’s not too hard to train an AI to recognise hatred, even masked behind slang. A company like Blizzard definetly has the resources and the tallent to set this up if they had wanted to.
Black and White have been banned for some time. It’s quite obvious it’s not The or Rose that were going to be the issue.
A few guilds survive who managed to form before the rules changed. It’s been like this for many years. I imagine a blanket ban is a lot simpler from a company point of view.
I’m one of the few people on here that pushed back against the Social Contract, everyone else viewed themselves as a “good” person, and a good person is polite and pleasant to others, so the Social Contract is reasonable to them.
These people are gullible, they are easily manipulated, and emotions drive the way they think.
You say anything, and someone will report you for it, and as I said before on here, Tyranny can only exist if you get the people it governs to enforce it, which Blizzard has successfully done.
And like you said there are obvious common sense things that people shouldn’t do or say but that’s not sufficient enough, so it has to be taken one step further.
No. However, WoW’s moderation over the years has raised a community of really strange people. They’ll make a guild called 1488 or whatever, and when asked to change the name, they’ll be like “whaaat, this is not fascism, the guild’s name is a reference to Battle of Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier”.
So the solution is to ban words that can really easily be used in that context. This is a failure on Blizzard’s part 17 years ago, and now they are in huge debt that they can’t catch up on.
Keep in mind that WoW has undeniably played a massive role in the rise of the modern far right, the violent racist groups and it has undeniably played a role in getting Trump elected. It was this game that inspired Steve Bannon to create Breitbart and to use the media to mobilize white rage. I’m not joking, this is all documented history. You can argue if it wasn’t WoW it would’ve been something else and that’s probably true, but… it just happened to be WoW.
So… Blizzard has a debt. Not just debt in terms of long-term failure at community building. But a debt to society as a whole.
Steve Bannon, who became Trump’s chief strategist in 2017, was inspired to get into politics from WoW. He got into WoW through investing $60 million into IGE, a Chinese gold selling company. This caused him to look up the community, as far as I know he even played the game in order to understand the business model. After all you don’t invest $60 million in WoW gold selling on a whim.
This was back in 2006 I believe. He saw the white rage. The n-word spouting. The racism. He got inspired that he could mobilize it for political reasons. As we all know, the way to mobilize a voterbase is to use the media, so he founded Breitbart - because of WoW.
There are other aspects to this - Bannon got into media in the 90s, and then while working on a documentary propagandizing Reagan as the greatest president ever, he met Andrew Breitbart.
The whole story is insane. Bannon believed there is a rise of “Islamic fascism” in America, and the the government, THE JEWS were appeasing the Islamic fascists.
We also should mention how vital Breitbart was to the rise of the online right, and how Ben Shapiro and Milo Yiannopoulos got started there. Breitbart was the main media pushing Gamergate forward (it’s as if Bannon knew he could mobilize gamers already ). I’m not saying Gamergate got Trump elected, it’s just a part of a massive puzzle, and at the center of that puzzle is WoW.
You can’t write fiction that’s weirder than the times we live in. If people wrote this in fiction, we’d all loudly and rightly proclaim it’s way too unrealistic and stupid.
I’m going to be honest, you’ve completely lost it if you think WoW or bannon is responsible for the rise of the far right in the modern world.
Also, people in European countries rarely ever visit sites like breitbart… Because it’s in English. I don’t read my news in English, I read them in Swedish. I don’t know any Swedes who regularly visit foreign newspapers and when they do read foreign newspapers, it’s usually norwegian or danish ones. Not US ones or ones in English for that matter, not even BBC, much less breitbart. I don’t think they even know what breitbart is.
If you had said in USA, maybe you’d have more of a point.
This is more about overbearing nanny behaviour from authority then political correctness, Blizzard doesn’t trust its players to use white and black in the contextual correct terms so they just disallow it all together.
I live in the United Kingdom, and nine times out of ten, (99 times out of 100 actually), if there is ever a rumour or fuss over something like ‘Christmas being cancelled!!!’ or that something like the word ‘white’ has been banned, you can pretty much guarantee that it’s just a sensationalist headline in some gutter-press newspaper, and that it’s a fabrication.
So this is my first instinct, to believe that such a silly and pointless thing couldn’t be real, but then i remember that Blizzard is an American company, and suddenly i’m not so sure. I can’t say this without sounding controversial, but the US seems to suffer from some feverish madness on occasions, and it’s contagious to other countries.
What a truly silly thing to do, to ban a colour. if it was ever misused the report button is there for a reason, but to remove perfectly mundane words from the English language is Orwellian.
There used to be huge differences between American and European racism and fascism, but with the globalization of media, that’s been changing. A huge point of difference was the sentiment towards Russia - American fascists used to hate them, and (at least East) Europeans used to love them. Now fascists across the board simp Russia. Hell, even Jordan Peterson (whose fascist status is currently under question), who had made his entire career calling Russian authoritarianism evil, is now simping for Putin and saying his invasion is a reaction to “American degeneracy” (like how cryptofascist can you get) and that Russia has an obligation to protect Ukraine from it.
For example, the rise of the right in France, with Marine Le Pen completely mirrors Trump’s rise and it is completely linked. Europe is not insulated from America, and has never really been. Let’s not forget Margaret Thatcher and her male doppelganger Reagan getting elected at the same time. Trump’s rise completely empowered the rise of the far right in many, many countries.
This is why you had Lauren Southern, a Canadian, joining Identity Evropa and going out to “protect Europe from the refugee invasion”. And she was accepted among Identity Evropa, even if she was a Canadian working in Canadian media, because that Canadian media will be used to recruit European racists.
I am entirely certain if it wasn’t for WoW, something else would’ve served as a trigger. With or without WoW, these politics exist and would’ve. It just happened to be WoW that’s in a very interesting position in all this.
This is how it feels trying to put this together. https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/022/524/tumblr_o16n2kBlpX1ta3qyvo1_1280.jpg
